Greetings!
As we begin 2022, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Glasgow Middle School an amazing place to be. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most importantly, our students.
From classrooms, to our living rooms, and all points in-between, our collective efforts to raise and teach our children are filled with passion and our commitment to making decisions that will have a positive and lasting influence in their lives. As such, we want to remind our community that FCPS and Glasgow MS is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for people of all races, national origins, ethnicities, and religions. It is our responsibility to ensure that all people are treated with dignity and humanity in our schools. Please report incidents using the FCPS safety tip line that you can access anonymously online, by text, or by phone.
I ask you to speak with your student about our expectations for behavior and to continue critical conversations about respect, kindness and acceptance in our community. Our students can make a difference in this world by showing that we embrace our differences and do not use them to divide us.
As we return from the break, students will be reminded of our morning routine. Based on the tardiness and some other hallway behaviors, we will take time to specifically reteach our expectations to students. In order to ensure that we start the day with calm and focused learning, we will continue to ask students to go and wait in one of 3 locations (Cafeteria, Gym, or Lecture Hall) when they enter the building until 7:15 AM, when they are released to class.
Lastly, this week we will be celebrating Happy Three Kings Day to those in our community who celebrate! Also known as the Epiphany, Three Kings Day commemorates the Biblical story of the three kings who followed the star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to the newborn Jesus. Merry Christmas wishes to our Orthodox families who celebrate! Many Orthodox Christians in the United States celebrate Christmas Day by the Gregorian calendar, which works out to be on or near January 7 in the Julian calendar. #OurFCPS #onevoice
Please continue to let our team know if you have any questions and how we can partner with you in 2022!!!
Humbly,
Victor L. Powell, Principal
