Message from the Principal

Dear Wolftrap Families,

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2022! I look forward to a wonderful year of community, teaching and learning. In anticipation of our return, I sent out some COVID-19 mitigation reminders on January 2nd, listing our protocols. Please let the office know if you need to have that information sent to you.

BREAKFAST DINING AND ARRIVAL: Wolftrap has been able to participate in breakfast over the past year, as the option has been made available to all students. However, some students are coming late in the arrival process, going to the cafeteria and then going to their classroom. If your family would like to have breakfast at school, please plan to arrive at 8:20, when doors open. This will allow for your child to go through the line and arrive in class before morning meeting. The cafeteria staff will be closing the cafeteria doors at 8:30am. If students arrive at 8:30 or right before, they will not be able to access the cafeteria. Please let us know if we can assist with this effort to get all students in classrooms before morning meeting and ready to take on the day!

TECHNOLOGY REMINDERS: While we do not anticipate a return to virtual learning, I want to take this time to remind you about technology habits. Teachers will be reviewing technology applications with all students. Students in grades 3-6 are expected to bring computers and chargers to and from school daily. K-2 students have a device assigned to them, and we will be working with teachers this week to devise the best schedule for bringing those devices home. I also want to include the following resources to support you at home. Please contact our School Based Technology Specialist (SBTS) Ms. Michelle Mussen (mhmussen@fcps.edu) with any other questions or for support.

Technology Support for Families

Tech Guidance for Paused/Limited Virtual Learning Setup

Schoology Support for Parents and Students, and Short Video Help segments.

ONE MORE REMINDER: EACH DAY, please use the screening form to be vigilant for any symptoms in your household. If students exhibit any of the symptoms, please do not send them to school. The daily health screening questionnaire form is linked here. Also, The FCPS website is linked here, with information regarding return to school after being sent home from the Care room. Our school health aide, Ms. Sharon Wolf, can answer questions and can be reached at her email address: SWolf@fcps.edu Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) will contact close contacts through email ONLY. This change in process has been implemented due to the high volume of cases to ensure contacts are provided guidance in a timely manner. Via email, close contacts will be provided information regarding quarantine, testing, and the vaccination survey.

MEET AND GREET: As promised, I’m working on dates for the upcoming administrative meet and greet. Due to the increase in cases, these initial meetings will be virtual.  I am hopeful for a “spring fling” in person, in the tent, later in the year to address the work on our vision and mission at Wolftrap. The virtual meetings will be open to parent questions for me. Please look for an upcoming call for questions and discussion topics, and I will welcome your input. I look forward to seeing you then.

Wofltrap PTA

Happy New Year! As we ring in 2022, the Wolftrap PTA is excited for the events and programs scheduled for the second half of this school year. We have a mix of virtual and in-person events planned for this winter and spring. Continue to monitor the Connection, the PTA webpage, and our Facebook Group for upcoming events, programs, and deadlines. Here is a sampling of some of the events our volunteers are planning:

  • Winter After-School Programs
  • Virtual Talent Show
  • Edison Expo Community Build Challenge
  • In-Person Wolftrap 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run

As we navigate this winter season, we ask for your continued patience as our volunteers navigate reopening programs at the school during a pandemic and for your understanding of the limitations it sometimes creates with our providers and vendors. While we hope we won’t have last-minute changes or cancellations to programs, we ask that you be aware of this continued possibility. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

As a reminder, there is no January PTA meeting. Save the date for our next virtual PTA meeting, Friday February 10, 7:00pm.

Winter After-School Programs

afterschool program

Registration for the Winter After-School Programs is scheduled to open on Monday, January 10th at 8:00am. Registration is currently scheduled to take place from Jan. 10 at 8:00am through Jan. 18th at midnight. Class dates are Jan. 25-March 18. Classes fill quickly, so make sure you get your registration done early.

At this time, we are awaiting final approvals from FCPS for these programs, and until that time cannot announce the final class schedule or advertise the classes available. We expect those approvals in the next couple days. As soon as those approvals come through, we will post the available classes both on our Wolftrap PTA website and at the Enrichment Matters websiteRegistration for classes will take place on the Enrichment Matters website only. The Enrichment Matters website is not currently active until our approvals come through.

Continue to monitor our Wolftrap PTA website and our Facebook Group page. If there are any changes to the registration dates and times, we will post them in those two places.

Given the current status of the pandemic, be mindful as you make your plans that we expect there could be last-minute cancellations to classes if our providers have sick teachers. Please be ready with back-up plans for your children in the event of such cancellations, and thank you in advance for your flexibility.

The Wolftrap ES directories are here and will be distributed over the next two weeks to PTA members. They will be sent home with your students, so keep an eye out for them.

If you would like a directory, both online and physical directory, you can still gain access by joining the PTA here. A PTA membership is only $25 and goes completely to support the PTA efforts running programs and support to our school.

Pick Up and Drop Off Safety

Please do NOT drop off/pick up students along the school side of Talisman between Beulah and St. Roman.

No Parking

Safety First:

If dropping a child off at school from an automobile, Kiss and Ride is the ONLY safe process for this option. Please share this information with all adults driving children to school in your household.

Our Talisman Neighbors

Please remember to remain respectful of our neighbors on Talisman. Please do not step in their landscaping or leave items in their yard. Let's show our Wolfie spirit by being respectful to our school neighbors!
