Note from School Counselor

Dear families,

We have noticed an increase in students coming to school late.  Students are considered late at 8:35am.  Please keep in mind that doors open at 8:20 am and students can arrive at that time.  It is important for students to have time in the morning to unpack and eat breakfast so they are set up for success and ready to learn.

Thank you for your support in getting your children to school on time!

Thanks,

Jennifer Warren

School Counselor

Covid-19 Vaccination Pop-Up Clinic at Lynbrook ES

In partnership with the Fairfax County Health Department the clinic will be available for walk in’s at *Lynbrook Elementary School and is open to FCPS students ages 5-11 years. The first dose will be given Saturday December 18, 2021, from 10am-4pm. No appointment is necessary, and all vaccinations are free. For a complete list of clinic locations and hours, click here. The health department website has information about other options for children’s COVID-19 vaccination.

* Lynbrook Elementary School is located at 5801 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA.

Book Fair Update

This is a note for parents who paid for Book Fair books that they have not yet received.  Bedford Falls will NOT be able to deliver the books until after the Winter Break.  They had always delivered pre-paid books promptly in the past, but this time they are in the middle of moving their warehouse and they had problems.  They have relayed their apologies for disappointing our students, parents and staff, and have indicated they will have the books for us very soon after we return from our winter break.   We are very sorry about this delay, and we appreciate for your patience and understanding.

School Year 2022-2023 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program Information

Each year, rising kindergarteners and first graders have the opportunity to participate in DLI programs available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish offered at Bailey’s ES, Fort Hunt ES, Fox Mill ES, Great Falls ES, Kent Gardens ES, Lake Anne ES, Laurel Ridge ES, London Towne ES, Orange Hunt ES, Powell ES, Ravensworth ES, and Rose Hill ES through a county-wide lottery process. Online registration for this lottery process opens on January 24, 2022. Registration is open to all rising kindergarteners and first graders living in Fairfax County. A SIS account is required to complete the application. If a student is not currently enrolled in FCPS, registration at the base school for the upcoming school year will be required. Please be aware that FCPS does not provide transportation for students who reside outside the attendance area of the DLI schools and a one-time fee of $100 must be paid upon acceptance of an out-of-boundary placement.

In the DLI Program, children spend half of the day learning content (math, science, health, and language arts of the partner language) in a partner language. The other half of the day is spent learning in English focusing on English language arts and social studies. The instructional program follows the Fairfax County Public Schools Program of Studies at each grade level. Students are able to connect the skills learned across both languages through the extensive use of manipulative and concrete hands-on activities.  A separate flyer for the details about 2022-23 Dual Language Immersion Registration Information will be sent home in Wednesday folder on January 5, 2022.

Covid-19 Testing Sites

Starting this week, students may obtain COVID-19 diagnostic testing at six drive-through sites in Fairfax County. Diagnostic testing is provided for anyone who has symptoms or is identified as a close contact of someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

COVID-19 testing helps us reduce the virus’ spread and keep our schools safe places for all students to learn. I encourage you to utilize our new diagnostic testing services as needed.

Appointments are not required for diagnostic testing but families must register in the secure online portal. When you register and provide consent for your child to be tested, they will also be added to Annandale Terrace ES’s screening testing pool. If you do not wish for them to be part of the weekly screening testing pool, simply log back into the online portal after your child’s test is complete and withdraw consent.

More information about diagnostic and screening testing, including site locations and schedules, is available on our website

Reduction in Student Quarantine Period

With the start of the national rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11 and a drop in the Fairfax County transmission rate from “substantial” to “moderate,” we are adjusting some of the layered prevention strategies that have helped keep the rate of in-school transmission of COVID-19 at just 0.02%.

  • Unvaccinated students who are exposed to COVID-19 in a school setting may quarantine for 10 days, instead of 14 days
  • Students will be notified of the day they may return to the classroom via the pause letter.
  • If you do not have a pause letter from your school, you will need to quarantine for 14 days, per the requirement of the Fairfax County Health Department.

More information is available online.
