Greetings Saxons,

If you’re counting, you know there’s only 5 days until winter break! The halls are certainly alive with the buzz that only a pending break can bring. There is much joy in Saxon Country and much to celebrate!

Our music programs are in the midst of their winter concerts. After a one year hiatus due to Covid, the choral department held its Renaissance Feaste last Friday and Saturday evenings. The amazing event has been held for nineteen years. I highly recommend that everyone make plans to attend next year; you will not be disappointed. Congratulations to the choir students and their teacher Dr. Lambert on two successful evenings of music! Also, a huge thank you to the over 60 parents and the Cooper Middle School choir students who volunteered. Only through your assistance is an event such as this possible!

Tuesday evening, Saxon Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. McCormick, presented their winter concert, Russian Winter Dreams. The concert consisted of Russian pieces performed by our wonderful orchestra students. Each musical selection was introduced by an orchestra student who is also taking Russian. Our legendary Russian teacher, Dr. Cukierman, also joined in the festivities. He read a Russian poem and wowed the audience by singing a Russian folk song. It was truly a magical night which brought together two of our award winning programs at Langley. Thank you to Dr. McCormick and Dr. Cukierman for all they do in support of our students.

As part of the orchestra concert, a special tribute was provided to former Spring Hill Orchestra Teacher Ruth Donahue. She retired after 33 years of teaching orchestra at the school. We thank her for her incredible contributions to our community!

Congratulations to Saxon Band for a wonderful concert last evening. “Sleigh Ride” was the highlight of the evening!

There is wonderful news to share! Langley High School had added a new staff member. Julie Zimmerman (also known by the last name Hohl) has joined our staff. Julie’s four sons all attended Langley. She served as a dedicated parent volunteer during their time in Saxon Country. Julie has accepted the position of family liaison here at Langley. She will be working to support families and the school’s engagement with parents and guardians. Julie, thank you for your ongoing support of our school community and your willingness to join us as a colleague.

I’m thrilled to inform you that Langley has been nominated as a potential Virginia candidate for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. We are one of only four schools nominated by FCPS based upon eligibility under the criteria for National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, as defined by the U.S. Education Department (USED). This distinction is due to the hard work of our students and staff. Way to go, Saxons! In January, we will find out if we have been selected as a state nominee.

A heartfelt thank you to each of you for your ongoing support of our school, students and staff. It truly does take a village to raise a child. The ongoing support of parents, guardians and other stakeholders is what makes Langley so special. I count myself fortunate to lead such a phenomenal school community.

Warmest regards,
