COVID Weekly Update

Every week, we will provide an update on our COVID-19 status to keep you informed. Parents interested in following the daily case reporting can refer to the COVID-19 Dashboard on the FCPS website. If you have any questions about how we are staying safe so we can keep learning in person, please contact the BBES office at 703-321-3900.

Bonnie Brae reports 1 positive COVID-19 case this week. 1 is a student and 0 are staff.

6 students and staff will be learning and teaching remotely while in a pause, quarantine, or isolation.

Remember, do your part to keep our school safe: Wear your mask, get vaccinated if you are eligible, practice healthy hygiene, and stay home when you are sick.

NEW: COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing Available for All Students

All students now have access to COVID-19 drive-through diagnostic testing at locations across the county, including one in each of the FCPS school regions. Students who have COVID-19 symptoms or have been identified as a close contact to someone with COVID-19 are encouraged to test quickly to help reduce the spread of the virus. Testing is also a step in the return to school process following illness or exposure.

A full list of locations and schedules is available on our website.

Appointments are not required but families must register through FCPS’ secure online portal before testing.

More information about FCPS’ COVID-19 testing program, including diagnostic testing, is available online.

Positivity Project

Positivity Project

We continue to work to empower students to build positive relationships through the Positivity Project. For the next week, the focus will be on Self-Control.

You have the ability to control your emotions and behaviors. You think before you act. “If you learn self-control, you can master anything.”

Lockdown

Lockdown Drill:

January 12, 2022

On January 12, 2022 at 9:30 AM, Bonnie Brae will conduct a lockdown drill at school.

Lockdown Drills are used to describe security measures taken to protect against intruders.

  • All students stay in place with a teacher or staff member.
  • Students and teachers remain in locked classrooms, unobservable from outside (lights-off, window blinds closed, door windows obscured with paper) and outside potential lines of fire.
  • Students and staff members disregard fire alarms.
  • No one enters or exits the school, except public safety personnel.
  • Persons in trailers remain in locked trailers.

FCPS Lockdown Frequently Asked Questions

Responsible Digital Citizenship

There is an increasing trend of concerning behavior or dialogue that is occurring outside of school on Social Media Applications. To help address this concern, in November, we offered two sessions on Media-balance and Wellbeing to partner with parents, guardians, or caregivers. Specifically, we hope to continue our collaboration by increasing awareness and implementing proactive strategies to encourage forethought prior to taking inappropriate actions on social media platforms. The slides and recording(passcode: f?#Wt#xt0K) of these sessions are available for your review.

As part of Fairfax County Public Schools' continuing efforts to maintain safe schools, a confidential and anonymous FCPS Tipline is available to students, parents, staff, and other members of the FCPS community.

We encourage students, staff and community members to report safety and wellness issues, such as threats to self or others or, concerns about students’ overall well-being. Tipline users may identify themselves or remain anonymous.

Additionally, please feel free to reach out to our Mental Health and Wellness Team here at Bonnie Brae if your child may need assistance.

Winter Concert

Upcoming Winter Concert

With current COVID restrictions, we will forgo our usually in-person winter concert this December. Instead, we will present a pre-recorded band (6th Grade), strings (5th/6th Grade), and choir (5th/6th Grade) concert in January!

We will record the concert during the school day and send the recording via a link to families the following week. Below are the dates of the pre-recorded winter concert.

  • January 14 – Concert Date
  • January 28 – Backup Concert Date (in the event of snow on January 14)

Again, this concert will be recorded and sent to families. More information (dress code, etc.) will come in the following weeks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to sharing this presentation with you!

Reminder:  Window for AAP Level IV (full-time) Referrals to Close December 15, 2021

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Level IV Referral Form to  Kaitlin Burg, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, no later than December 15

The window to submit an AAP Level IV Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for AAP Level IV will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for level IV placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Kaitlin Burg kmburg@fcps.edu. Referrals for AAP Levels II-III (part-time services) are screened at the local school.

For more information, there are parent presentations available on the FCPS AAP website (under “Presentations”) that contain information similar to our fall parent information meetings at Bonnie Brae Elementary School.
