Food Drive

The staff and students at Silverbrook would like to thank our community for the outpouring of non-perishable food items during our food drive. We collected 7,200 pounds of food. The food was retrieved by the Lorton Community Action Center just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Cold Weather, Recess and Lunch

During typical winter days, we will consider factors such as wind chill, whether the ground is frozen or the sun is shining, how well students are prepared to play outdoors, what activity the students are participating in, and the length of time to be spent outside. Outdoor activities will be limited during National Weather Service issued Wind Chill Advisories and Wind Chill Warnings.

When outdoor dining is paused, the pause is for all students; and students will not be able to choose to eat outside. Please keep in mind that when outdoor dining is cancelled for the day, it does not necessarily mean that there will be no outdoor recess. Please have your children dressed in layers and wear proper outdoor attire.

Holiday Parties

In following school traditions around the holidays our classes can choose to have a holiday party to celebrate the season. Students will enjoy their individual snack during the festivities. Classes can choose to enjoy a movie, make a craft, or play games.

Teachers will reach out to parents if there are at home projects you can do to support crafts (such as sending in items). We are asking your continued patience with not visiting.

Reminder:  Window for AAP Level IV (full-time) Referrals to Close December 15, 2021

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Level IV Referral Form to Diane Wadsworth  dmwadsworth@fcps.edu no later than December 15

The window to submit an AAP Level IV Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for full-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for AAP Level IV will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for level IV placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April.

Mrs. Wadsworth created a special presentation that highlights and explains the County Level IV Screening Process. This recording will allow you to view the presentation as your schedule allows. If you have questions, please watch this updated presentation about the Spring 2022 County Screening Cycle. The presentation details all the parts of a county screening file and answers questions about the family role in the process. To access the presentation recording click here: County Level IV Screening Information Presentation 2021 Feel free to email Mrs. Wadsworth with any additional questions that the presentation does not answer. Due to the workload associated with county screening, Mrs. Wadsworth is unable to meet with parents individually regarding the county referrals, but she will happily answer questions via email or over the phone to assist you with the process.
