Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

Tuesday morning, we saw the first snowflakes of the season. While that event was quick and light, it’s a reminder to prepare for inclement weather.

Earlier this year, FCPS announced that snow days will stay in 2021-22. The first five inclement weather days will be traditional inclement weather days.

There are several ways you can find out if inclement weather will affect the school day. The FCPS website is generally the first and fastest mode of communication during emergency weather closings.

With the weather in mind, our building tends to run hot then cold, then hot, then cold again.  Having your child wear layers is a safe way to keep him/her comfortable at school.

      Have a wonderful weekend!

Laptop Care- It's RESTARTING & CHARGING Time!

FCPS has been pushing many new updates and security patches to school laptops to ensure new policies, filtering and the most recent version of applications are in place. It’s important that students restart their laptops.

A shutdown and then powering on is not the same as a restart.

A RESTART is done by selecting the (1) Windows logo, clicking the (2) power icon, and selecting (3) Restart from the window options.

As a reminder, students in grades 3-6 should take their laptops home in the evening and bring them back to school fully charged. All third through sixth grade students were given a charger at the beginning of the year to support this effort. We appreciate your assistance to ensure our devices are running efficiently!

Library Books

Please look around your home and return any library books your child is no longer reading. Overdue notices will be sent home on Thursday, December 9 in an effort to get as many books as possible back on the shelves before Winter Break. No fines are charged for overdue books at the school library, we are just trying to make sure everyone has a chance to read them. Some of our most popular books have been checked out since the beginning of the school year. Please direct any questions to SpringHillLibrary@fcps.edu. Thank you in advance for your help in getting books returned!

Positivity Project

Next week, our students will learn about Kindness. Having Kindness means you are generous to others and you are never too busy to help out. You enjoy doing good deeds for other people.

Drive-Through COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing

Starting this week, students may obtain COVID-19 diagnostic testing at six drive-through sites in Fairfax County. Diagnostic testing is provided for anyone who has symptoms or is identified as a close contact of someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

COVID-19 testing helps us reduce the virus’ spread and keep our schools safe places for all students to learn. I encourage you to utilize our new diagnostic testing services as needed.

Appointments are not required for diagnostic testing but families must register in the secure online portal. When you register and provide consent for your child to be tested, they will also be added to [SCHOOL’S] screening testing pool. If you do not wish for them to be part of the weekly screening testing pool, simply log back into the online portal after your child’s test is complete and withdraw consent.

More information about diagnostic and screening testing, including site locations and schedules, is available on our website
