FH Weekly Update - 12/5/21

(pictured above - Freedom Hill's Green Team has completed a schoolwide recycling audit and introduced new bins and signage to encourage more sustainable practices at our school!)

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

We hope you are well! Today we'd like to provide a short update on new COVID-19 diagnostic testing provided by the county.

Starting this week, students may obtain COVID-19 diagnostic testing at six drive-through sites in Fairfax County. Diagnostic testing is provided for anyone who has symptoms or is identified as a close contact of someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. COVID-19 testing helps us reduce the virus’ spread and keep our schools safe places for all students to learn. We encourage you to utilize our new diagnostic testing services as needed.

Appointments are not required for diagnostic testing but families must register in the secure online portal. When you register and provide consent for your child to be tested, they will also be added to Freedom Hill's screening testing pool. If you do not wish for them to be part of the weekly screening testing pool, simply log back into the online portal after your child’s test is complete and withdraw consent.

More information about diagnostic and screening testing, including site locations and schedules, is available on our website

Hope to see you for some pizza at Ledo's tomorrow or Tuesday!

Community Reminders

Thank you to our community for your assistance as we continue to learn during an unusual year. Please help us to ensure smooth functioning in our school by helping us with the below:

  • All students should come to school each day with a water bottle and several masks.
  • Parents should remain vigilant about symptoms associated with COVID-19. Please utilize this checklist daily, and do not send your student to school if they have any symptoms.
  • Please alert the front office/teacher of dismissal changes before 3:00 each day. Dismissal changes and early dismissals between 3:00-4:00 place a significant burden on the office staff and disruption in classrooms. Thank you!

Upcoming Green Team Work Session

Our garden is growing even in our cold weather. Green Team is having its 3rd garden work session on Saturday December 11th, 2021. On this day, we will be clearing the pathways and laying down gravel in our pollinator garden. We will also be attaching trellises to our garden beds and installing a gate for our pollinator garden. In addition, we will be installing deer fencing to keep some of our larger pests out of the garden.  We hope to see you between 8:30 am-12:30 pm behind the school at our school garden.

Positivity Project: Knowing My Words and Actions Affect Others

This week, we are working on ONE of the FIVE overarching components of the Positivity Project. Knowing that everything you do and say can affect others - and your relationships with them.

“Solid character will reflect itself in consistent behavior, while poor character will seek to hide behind deceptive words and actions.”

                                                          ~Myles Munroe

Often times, knowing something and acting like you know it doesn’t line up with each other. For example, you know that your words and actions impact other people, but your behavior doesn’t always show that understanding.

What does it look like to KNOW that your words and actions impact others?
