  • We have a little over 60 left.   • Chick Fil A Fundraiser Monday, Nov 22nd, WPHS Door 2A from 4pm - 7pm. WPHS Choir Boosters

Christmas Wreaths! West Potomac Crew Team fundraiser

  • IN PERSON Wreath Sales in December! The West Potomac Crew Team is happy to announce that it will be selling wreaths in person at two locations this year between November 30 and December 15! Look for us at Hollin Hills Pool (December 4, 5, 11 & 12) and at St Luke's Episcopal Church (Nov 30 - December 1 and December 6-10). Please come by and pick out a farm fresh, fragrant wreath for your door. Thank you for your support!

 

Take a Break on Monday with Dinner from Haute Dogs and Fries:

  • The West Potomac Dance Team hopes you'll take a cooking / shopping / prepping break on Monday, November 22 to come out to Old Town to support the team!   Eat inside or order online to go between 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Online ordering for pickup may be helpful because street parking might be a bit tricky.  Please do not use extra services such as Grub Hub, etc.  See flyer for more details. 

 Alexandria Community Nutcracker - Tickets are now available:

  • For the 13th year, dancers from West Potomac and other FCPS and local schools will perform together in the Alexandria Community Nutcracker. All ages will be swept away by the Christmas magic of the party scene and the enchanting dances in the Land of Sweets. The performance includes ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, gymnastics, and Irish dancing. Shows are at Mount Vernon High School this year because of the construction at West Potomac. The performance dates with tickets remaining are Thursday December 2 at 5:30 pm, Friday December 3 at 6:30 pm, and Saturday December 4 at both 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm. Proceeds from Nutcracker ticket sales will support an arts scholarship program that FCPS students benefit from. Other items sold at the show will support the West Potomac Dance Team. COVID-19 Screening Testing for Student Athletes

  • As a reminder, FCPS requires student-athletes to be fully vaccinated or provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test to participate in VHSL winter and spring sports or any activity requiring a physical. 
  • COVID-19 screening testing for student-athletes began November 18. Testing time will be between 7:30 and 9:00 am and will be located in the Athletic Training Room. Preregistration continues to be open for families of students requiring a weekly test for athletic participation. 
  • Student-athletes ages 16 and older are required to be fully vaccinated or have a medical or religious exemption. 
  • Student-athletes ages 16 and older with a medical or religious vaccination exemption will be required to provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test.
  • Student-athletes ages 16 and older who are not fully vaccinated and do not have an exemption may not participate in the activity.
  • Student-athletes ages 12-15 who are not fully vaccinated by choice or due to a medical or religious exemption will be required to provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test.

One-time parent/legal guardian consent is required to begin COVID screening testing for a student-athlete to be tested at school. You may withdraw your consent for testing at any time. If you want your child to begin participating in COVID-19 screening testing, you must pre-register your child(ren) and provide consent using the secure online portal.

Testing details include: 

  • Student-athletes will receive PCR tests using the Anterior Nares Swab (shallow swab).
  • Student-athlete testing is provided by Aegis Sciences Corporation, a partner in the Virginia Department of Health’s VIssTA program.
  • Testing takes place at all traditional high school sites (after school to the maximum extent possible). 
  • Test results will be kept confidential and made available to parents and guardians Student-athlete test results will be provided to the Director of Student Activities and other designated FCPS personnel if parent/guardian consent is provided for the disclosure.
  • Student-athletes participating in screening testing will not be part of the school’s random sample for weekly testing.

Student Services / College and Career Center Updates

Fairfax County Youth Survey

  • We previously communicated with all 10th and 12th grade parents and guardians that the Fairfax County Youth Survey Administration would occur with all 10th and 12th graders on Monday November 22. It will now occur on Monday November 29.  We will accept opt outs through Tuesday November 23 via this link.

DECEMBER IS NOVA MONTH IN THE CCC:

  • Are you a senior planning on attending Northern Virginia Community College next year?  Do you need help completing your application?
  • Our NOVA admissions representative is coming to the WPHS Career Center to assist students who need help completing their application.  Northern Virginia Community College recommends that students complete their application for admission between November 15th and March 1st. 
  • Pre-registration is REQUIRED & the registration link has been sent to seniors via their fcpsschools.net email account.  Seniors can attend only ONE application completion event. Students must get prior permission from your teacher to attend this event.  All students who pre-register will receive an email from Mrs. Young prior to the day of the event to use as a pass.  Dates:  12/1 OR 12/9 Location:  WPHS Career Center

Lunch & Learn:  George Mason ADVANCE Program

  • Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and George Mason University created the ADVANCE program to streamline the journey toward a bachelor's degree & help students by providing the support they need to earn a bachelor's degree within four years.  The GMU Advance representative is coming to WPHS to talk with students about this program.  Students do not need to pre-register for this event.
  • Date:  12/3 Location:  WPHS Career Center during all lunches

2021 Parent Workshop:  Postsecondary Education Options for Students with Disabilities

  • Join FCPS Career & Transition Services to learn about postsecondary education options available for students with disabilities.  Topics include, but are not limited to disclosure, accessing accommodations, disability support services, and other pathways to success.
