Dear Poplar Tree Families,

If you are considering a COVID vaccination, FCPS and the health department are offering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 at ten clinics located at schools across Fairfax County. Clinics will be held after school hours, evenings, and weekends. All children are welcome and a parent or other responsible adult is required to attend with them. No appointment is necessary, and all vaccinations are free. For locations and clinic hours, click here. The health department website has information about other options for children’s COVID-19 vaccination. #VaxUP

You might have seen information about optional screening testing at schools. Poplar Tree's screening day is on Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:00. The screening testing is completed by the vendor LTS.

One-time parent/legal guardian consent is required to begin COVID screening testing for a student to be tested at school. You may withdraw your consent for testing at any time. If you want your child to begin participating in COVID-19 screening testing, you must pre-register your child(ren) and provide consent using the LTS secure online portal. If you do not want your child to participate in COVID-19 screening testing, no action is required. You will have the option each week to update your child’s vaccination and consent for testing.

On Wednesday (11/24), Thursday (11/25), and Friday (11/26) next week all FCPS schools and offices are closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

We have so many amazing staff members at Poplar Tree ES...now is the time to submit a nomination for an Outstanding Employee!

If you would like to nominate a staff member, please complete the nomination through this Google form link. All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. The google form link has more information regarding the criteria for each of these awards and the eligibility requirements are below. Students at Poplar Tree had an awesome virtual visit with author Josh Funk last week, courtesy of the Poplar Tree PTA and the Poplar Tree Library! If you are interested in purchasing any of Josh Funk’s many hilarious titles, they are available from the Virtual Book Fair. Each copy sold will receive an autographed book plate from the author to put inside.

Toy Collection

We are excited to share that our school is one of the collection sites for the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad’s Santa’s Ride Toy Collection.  We are collecting donations of NEW unwrapped toys, games, books and gifts.  The collection boxes are available in our school lobby and in front of the school now through Friday, December 10^th.  The donated toys will go to the children at Fairfax Hospital, Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center, and children in the community. Thank you for your support!

On behalf of the Poplar Tree PTA Board, we want to express our gratitude for the support of the Poplar Tree community this year. With your support, we have been able to host community events, provide needed resources to the school and show our appreciation to our staff and teachers. Thank you to our teachers and staff for your support, and our families for your membership, your donations, and your time to support the Poplar Tree community, and most importantly, a bright future for our students. 

📚Read-a-thon: Collect Donations Over the Thanksgiving Holiday📚

Our Read-a-thon starts Wednesday December 1, 2021, however you can activate your child's account now and start collecting donations online from family members who would like to support and encourage your child's school and reading journey. This Read-a-thon is a fundraiser to support our annual school grant of $10,000. This fundraiser will replace the No Fuss Fundraiser of years past.
