Kiss & Ride Thank You!

A HUGE thank you for all of your help last week transitioning our Student Dropoff/Pickup (Kiss & Ride) location to Door #4.  We couldn’t have made this happen without your support.  As was shared in previous messages, this will be the location of our Kiss & Ride throughout the renovation process.

Due to changes in traffic patterns on campus which includes an increase of buses entering and exiting at Door #8 (stadium lot), we ask that Door #8 (stadium lot) NOT be used for Kiss & Ride.

Thank you for your continued support!

How Well Does My Child Read?

During the month of November, English teachers will be administering a short assessment called Reading Inventory. Scores on this assessment will allow teachers to know each student’s reading level in comparison to grade level expectations.

Teachers can use this data to plan lessons that more accurately meet students’ individual needs.

This information is used along with other data points to help school leaders determine reading interventions some students may need, which could include access to specific courses for next school year or in-class supports this year.

The Reading Inventory scores will be sent home with your child when testing is completed.

If you have any questions about this assessment, please feel free to email Day Leary at daleary@fcps.edu

The Fairfax County Youth Survey

10th and 12th Graders

The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey.  The results of this survey are published each year online and are used by school officials, youth leadership classes, youth-serving county agencies, and local non-profits to determine the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs offered in schools and communities. It is also used to identify changing trends and areas of need. The survey is anonymous and no individual information is reported.

You have the right to preview the survey and may deny permission for your child to participate if you desire. If a student is uncomfortable with any question on the survey, the student does not have to answer that question or may elect to discontinue the survey. While it is hoped that as many students as possible will participate, you have the option of completing the attached form if you wish to opt out your child.

The survey will be administered between November 15-30, 2021, in all 10th and 12th grade Advisory classes. A copy of the survey will be available to parents and/or guardians online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/youth-survey and in the school counseling office of your child's school.  An e-notfiy message was sent to all 10th and 12th grade parents on October 14th. If you do not wish for your child to take part in the survey, please complete the form attached to the parent letter and return it to your child’s counselor no later than November 15, 2021.
