Family Life Education-Virtual Parent Preview Night

You are invited to attend a preview of the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program on Tuesday, November 16th at 6:00pm using this link

Students in grades K-6 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher. Students in Kindergarten through grade three receive instruction in an emotional and social health unit. Students in grades 4-6 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

FCPS Outstanding Employee Nominations Open!

As you may know, every year Fairfax County Public Schools recognizes outstanding employees at all levels. Once again, all schools in FCPS are encouraged to nominate outstanding employees, who may go on to win at the pyramid, Region, or even Division levels. 

Categories include:

  • Outstanding Teacher
  • Outstanding New Teacher (first three years)
  • Outstanding Principal
  • Outstanding Leader (Assistant Principal)
  • Outstanding Professional Employee 
  • Outstanding Operational Employee

We are asking you, the Coates community, to help us gather names for this process.

If you would like to nominate a Coates staff member for any of the above awards, please email Amy Marney at ajmarney@fcps.edu no later than Monday, November 15 for more information.  All responses will be kept confidential.  Please keep in mind the following criteria for your submission:

  • Instills in students a desire to learn and achieve.
  • Understands the individual needs of students, encourages their talents, and fosters their self-esteem.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students
  • Fosters cooperative relationships and engages with their colleagues and the community
  • Demonstrates outstanding leadership
