Nominations are now open for the 2021-2022 FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards!

We have so many amazing staff members at Poplar Tree ES...now is the time to submit a nomination for an Outstanding Employee!


If you would like to nominate a staff member, please complete the nomination through this Google form link. You may nominate one employee at our school or multiple employees (one individual may only nominate one employee per category.) All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. The google form link has more information regarding the criteria for each of these awards and the eligibility requirements are below.


Outstanding Teacher

Eligibility: Has at least three years of experience as a teacher (in any school/school district); librarians are included in this category

Outstanding New Teacher

Eligibility: Has up to three years of experience as a teacher (in any school/school district); librarians are included in this category

Outstanding Principal

Eligibility: Has at least three years of experience as a building principal (in any school/school district)

Outstanding New Principal

Eligibility: Has up to three years of experience as a building principal (in any school/school district)

Outstanding Leader

Eligibility: At least one year of experience in their current position as a Schedule-C or School-Based Administrator scale employee (that is not the building principal). Common positions in this category: Assistant and Associate Principals, Director of Student Activities, Director of Student Services

Outstanding Professional Employee

Eligibility: At least one year experience in current position as a Schedule-B employee or other non-instructional employee in a school that supports school leadership. Common positions in this category: School-Based Technology Specialist, Technology Support Specialist, Assessment Coach, Career Center Specialist, Instructional Coach, Psychologist, Social Worker, School Counselor, Safety and Security Specialist, Resource Teachers that serve in an
administrative role in a school

Outstanding Operational Employee

Eligibility: At least one year of experience in current position as Schedule-A or Classroom Instructional Support Scale employee. Common positions in this category: Administrative and Office Staff, Safety and Security Assistant, Custodial Staff, Food Service Staff, IA, PHA, PHTA, All Parent Liaisons

Virtual Author Visit

Students at Poplar Tree had an awesome virtual visit with author Josh Funk today, courtesy of the Poplar Tree PTA and the Poplar Tree Library! If you are interested in purchasing any of Josh Funk’s many hilarious titles, they are available from the Virtual Book Fair. Each copy sold will receive an autographed book plate from the author to put inside. Shop HERE!

Little Free Library

We are so happy to see how much love and use the Little Free Library is receiving! We’ve noticed it is getting low on books. As a reminder, please feel free to add any unwanted books you might have around your house. We hope to continue to be able to keep it stocked for the community to enjoy! Santa's Ride

 

Fairfax County Police Motor Squad's

Toy Collection

We are excited to share that our school is one of the collection sites for the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad’s Santa’s Ride Toy Collection.  We are collecting donations of NEW unwrapped toys, games, books and gifts.  The collection boxes are available in our school lobby and in front of the school now through Friday, December 10th.  The donated toys will go to the children at Fairfax Hospital, Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center, and children in the community. Thank you for your support!

6th Grade Parents/Caregivers

Fairfax County Youth Survey Information

                Fairfax County Public schools is again partnering with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to survey all students in 6th, 8th, 10th and 12 grades with the Fairfax County Youth Survey. This survey asks questions about risky behavior, mental health, physical health, and safety. This year the survey will be administered digitally during the school day. We will administer the survey on Friday, November 19. You have a right to preview the survey and opt your child out of participation in the survey. An opt-out form and detailed letter from Dr. Brabrand will go home in your child’s weekly folder on Friday, October 15. If you want to opt your child out of the survey, please return this form to the school by Friday, November 12. 🍕Mellow Mushroom Spirit Night Sunday November 14th 4-9PM🍕 

Our next Spirit Night will be at Mellow Mushroom in Chantilly on November 14th from 4-9PM. It is eat-in only, with 20% of proceeds going to support the school.  Please show the flyer sent home in your child's Friday folders!


📚📚Read-a-thon Dec 1-17📚📚

Flyers will be going home in the folders today! Students will be getting donations from friends and family, and all contributions will come right back to supporting Poplar Tree. You can sign-up at: https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/enter_code_m

We want to make this a fun celebration of our shared love of reading and spread the importance of literacy. To add some fun, we will be having an optional bookmark decorating contest next week during the virtual book fair. All students will receive a custom Poplar Tree bookmark. All entries due by 11/19. Design must be 2”x 6” in size. There will be a box outside the front office for submissions or scanned/digital submissions can be sent to PoplarTreePTA@gmail.com

We will also have a few spirit days in December to congratulate everyone on their hard work building their reading stamina.

🍎Scout Food Drive🍎

Pack 1459 distributed flyers to homes in several local neighborhoods this past weekend. If you are able to support this great cause, please leave your donations on your front porch by 8:30 AM Saturday, November 13th for the Scouts to collect. You can also bring your donations to Poplar Tree Elementary between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Saturday. Scouts will not be knocking on doors this year, but please email pack1459chantilly@gmail.com with any questions or if you did not receive the flyer and would like to participate!
