Orange Hunt News We HOOT

lf

Check out what is happening at OHES!  We had a blast bringing back one of our beloved traditions last Friday night.  We were able to hold our annual Lanternen Fest thanks to the PTA and the community.  We had well over 300 people join us for signing, a story and a crisp fall walk.

Veterans Day (November 11, 2021)

This Veterans Day we are excited to honor our service members by having six outdoor "Celebration Stations" where our students will do hands-on activities to learn more about military life.

We are still looking for scout leaders to teach our students a few facts about the American flag. If you are interested in volunteering to help for a one-hour block, please see the sign-up genius link and more information and guidelines will be provided for each area.

To comply with CDC guidelines and keep our students and staff safe during the school day, we are limiting activities to our students and the volunteers for this day. There will be limited spaces available for parents of 5th or 6th graders who are performing in band, strings, and/or chorus to attend. These parents will receive a message from their directors today to sign up for a time slot.

As we know, this is an important event and would love to have more people experience this day with us. We will be posting a video and/or pictures to share the many ways our students have participated.

Field Day is BACK!

We need you!

On November 12th, the students will be having fun participating in Field Day games.  The rain date will be November 19th.  Our Kindergarten will have their own field day later in the spring.

This fun filled event cannot be successful without our awesome parent volunteers, and we need your help. We still have many spots open! If this is a way you can support and help us out we would greatly appreciate and welcome you on this day! Please use the Sign-up Geniuses below to volunteer for a specific time and activity. Feel free to sign up for more than one time slot if that interests you.  We ask that all volunteers wear masks while on school property during the day.  Thank you!

Kiss and Ride Reminders

We are noticing some unsafe practices in the mornings and afternoons. Please read reminders below so we can keep everyone safe!

Morning Reminder:

In the morning, it is important that you arrive before the side doors close at 8:45am.  Our staff has to report to their next assignment to work with our students.  If you arrive after 8:45am you will need to park and walk your child into the building.  It is important for your child to start their day on time.  Many students feel unsettled and stressed if they are walking into their classrooms after the bell has rung and their class is already engaged in learning.

Afternoon Reminder:

We have a very busy afternoon at dismissal.  We have adults and students not crossing at the crosswalks.  This is very unsafe and we do not want anyone to be injured or serious hurt.  We expect families to use the official Kiss and Ride to pick up your child.

Below are the guidelines we ask you to follow to keep everyone safe at arrival and dismissal.

(8:20-8:45am & 3:35pm)

  • Drop your child off only in the Kiss and Ride traffic pattern. Do not drop your child off on Sydenstricker Rd. or other  areas around the school/neighborhood.
  • Pull your car forward as far as possible in the line.
  • Make sure that your child exits your car on the building side only.
  • Do not pass other cars in line.
  • Go directly to Sydenstricker Rd; do not use the bus access lane in front of the school.

For Our Military Families

Moving in the middle of a school year is common for military families and other highly mobile families.  Every few years your family may be required to move, possibly across the county or to another country. Relocating a school-aged child includes its own unique challenges and responsibilities. Military OneSource provides practical information on enrollment, placement and attendance, as well as other helpful intel you’ll need to successfully help your children navigate these transitions and build lifelong resiliency

If you need help planning your school transition, reach out to our Family Liaison, Stacy Huisman, for help. She can help ease the goodbyes and help with a few new hellos.

FCPS Cares!

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Orange Hunt ES. We love our OHES staff members, let's tell them how we feel!
