Fairfax County Youth Survey

The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey. The results of this survey are published each year on https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health-humanservices/fairfax-county-youth-survey  and are used by school officials, youth leadership classes, youth-serving county agencies, and local non-profits to determine the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs offered in schools and communities. It is also used to identify changing trends and areas of need. The survey is anonymous and no individual information is reported.

The survey will be administered between November 15-30, 2021, during a time of day determined by your child's school administration. A copy of the survey will be available to parents and/or guardians on line at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/youth-survey  and in the school counseling office of your child's school beginning October 15, 2021.

If you do not wish for your child to take part in the survey, please complete the attached form (see attached letter with form) and return it to your child's school counselor no later than November 15, 2021.

If you have questions about the survey, contact Stefan Mascall, coordinator, Student Safety and Wellness Office, at 571-423-4270.

Veterans Day

As Veterans Day approaches, we would like to honor those who have served and are serving in the Armed Forces.  If you would like to recognize someone in your family, please fill out the form below and return it to the Main Office. All forms should be returned to the Main Office by Wednesday, November 10.

Please include a photograph (photocopy of the photograph is preferred since these will not be returned) of the person you would like to honor. These forms will be displayed in the Main Lobby to remind our students and visitors of the meaning and importance of recognizing our Veterans.  If you would like to honor more than one family member, please feel free to make copies of this form: Wall of Heroes form.

Share the Joy of Thanksgiving with a Neighbor!

What does Thanksgiving look like for you? Visiting with loved ones? Watching parades and football? Enjoying the sights, smells, and flavors of some favorite foods? Help create these memories for one or more school families who struggle with food security. Our school is partnering with Food For Neighbors to provide some of our students and families with a $50 gift card to a local grocery store. Your gift will help your neighbors to put food on their tables this Thanksgiving. The goal is to raise enough money for Food For Neighbors to provide a total of nearly 700 of the $50 grocery store gift cards to 24 participating schools, which includes ours!

Donate: https://www.foodforneighbors.org/home/holiday-meals/

Thank you for anything you can do. Every donation counts. Together, we can make a big difference!

If your family needs assistance, please contact Traci Jamison, Irving’s Social Worker, at tdjamison@fcps.edu or 703-912-4547.

Hydration Stations

All water fountains in FCPS are for water bottle filling/refilling only. We HIGHLY encourage your child to bring a water bottle (LABELED with your child’s name on it) to school daily. As many water bottles do look alike, it is very important that the bottle is labeled with the student’s name as we have several bottles left behind on a daily basis.

Library News

Our Readers Unite Book Club is continuing to meet each week, with a good number of participants.   The group meets in the library after school on Mondays, from 2:30-3:30.  We will discuss our third book of the year, Scar Island, on Monday, November 8, and we’ll be selecting our next title.   Any students who are avid readers are encouraged to join.  Students can express interest by asking in the library or by emailing either of the librarians.

7th graders will be visiting next week to choose a narrative nonfiction title to read for an upcoming English class book project.  If you are wondering what “narrative nonfiction” means, it is a true account written in the style of a novel; biographies often fall into this category. While every student will have an opportunity to visit the Irving library, your student’s book does not need to come from the library.
