FH Weekly Update - 11/7/21

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

We hope you are well! A moment that many of us have been waiting for has arrived - community clinics and local pediatricians have started administering the COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5-11. FCPS asked local pediatricians to talk about some of the questions families have about the vaccine. In this short video we learn how the vaccine works and its safety.

This week, we are excited to share that our Book Fair is finally returning! Ms. Trott has been hard at work developing a new schedule to keep us safe inside while also offering some weekend times next Saturday (at the same time as our outdoor Green Team work session). On Thursday we celebrate Veterans' Day. We are thankful for our school community and family members who have served, or are currently serving our country. FCPS has scheduled a 2-hour early release for Veteran’s Day.

Additionally, on Monday we are having our first lunches for our Soaring Eagles Citizenship Award winners for first quarter. Each teacher selected two students to be recognized based not on academic performance, but rather on exemplary showcasing of our Positivity Project traits. These students have been models for their peers and contributed to our wonderful school culture. They will be invited to eat lunch with the principals and school counselors, and will receive a variety of prizes. Thank you to Mrs. Coleman and Ms. Hill for organizing this great recognition program.

We have extended our parent support SignUpGenius through November. We are hoping to continue our optional outdoor lunches as long as the weather remains mild and will allow students to bring their jackets outside. Thank you for your support!

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

Positivity Project: Bravery

pp

Individuals with this strength may be described as:

  • Courageous
  • Valorous
  • Heroic

Individuals with this strength may act, feel or say the following things:

  • I would prefer to try and fail, than never to have tried at all.
  • Doing what is right is the most important thing
  • I know what I am afraid of and take action to overcome my fears.

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Nelson Mandela

Activating ParentVue Accounts

The SIS - Student Information System - is an online tool parents can use to access information about their child’s attendance, report cards, discipline incidents, health information, and more. In ParentVUE, you can also view student progress reports/report cards and SOL scores.

Your secure SIS ParentVUE Account offers you the ability to use one username/password to login to both the SIS ParentVUE Account and Schoology.

Using the SIS ParentVUE account, parents will also be able to view school information, including teacher e-mail addresses, the FCPS calendar, and emergency contact information. Visit the FCPS website and use the search function and keywords “SIS Parent Overview” for more information.

Many of our Freedom Hill families have already activated the SIS ParentVUE account with the activation key. If you are unable to login to your account, you may need to reset your password on the SIS Parent Account login page (http://sisparent.fcps.edu):

  • Select the “Forgot Password” button.
  • Your username is the primary email address you have on file with us in our Student Information System.
  • More information is available here.

Newly enrolled families should have received an activation key for your account. Please take action now to ensure your account is active, so that you won’t miss a beat!
