Dear CRES families,

This is a reminder regarding deadlines as we prepare Hall of Fame posters to honor family veterans/active military, welcome special guests at CRES and plan for the 2-hour Early Dismissal on Thursday, November 11.

2-Hour Early Dismissal- Thursday, Nov. 11

CRES will celebrate Veterans Day in the morning due to FCPS’ 2-hour Early Dismissal from school Thursday, November 11. CRES dismisses students at 2:05 p.m. Buses will arrive at bus stops 2-hours earlier than their regularly scheduled times. Students will have lunch at their regularly scheduled time.

Veterans Day Celebration- Thursday, Nov. 11

Thursday, November 11th, we will have our Veterans Day celebration to honor our CRES community veterans and active military.  This could be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, or cousin of students in our CRES community. This year’s celebration will be different than in the past.

Veterans’ Hall of Fame Posters Due Date: Oct. 29-Nov. 10

We understand that our Veterans/Active Military may be unavailable to visit a classroom in-person or virtually, and we would still like to honor/remember them in our Veterans’ Hall of Fame.  As part of our Veterans Day celebration, we will also highlight our United States veterans and active military in our Veterans’ Hall of Fame located in the Main Lobby. Click here or .pdf version to access an information sheet to be completed and brought in with a picture of the veteran. Students need to only bring in the picture and information sheet. They will glue them on a school-supplied ‘ready-made’ poster and hang the poster in the Main Lobby.  We will accept the information sheet and picture Oct. 29-Nov. 10. We will start hanging posters in the lobby Nov. 1. Students may pick up their ready-made poster in the Main Office between Friday, October 29-Wednesday November 10. All Hall of Fame posters must be submitted by Wednesday, November 10.

RSVP To Meet with Students Due Date: Friday, Nov. 5

All veterans/active military who would like to talk with students must RSVP here by Friday, November 5.  To encourage the continued health of our students, staff and honored guests, we have several options by which veterans may participate in our celebration.

  1. Veterans/Active Military come into school. We would be honored to have that veteran/active military in-person to meet with an individual class.
  2. Veterans/Active Military virtually meet with class. We would be honored to have that veteran/active military meet virtually with an individual class.
  3. We ask Veterans/Active Military to record a brief 5 minutes video using this link. Teachers will share your videos with our students. We encourage all Veterans/Active Military to complete a video using this link as we will have classes who will not have an honored guest. This gives all classes the opportunity to learn from you through recorded video.

Schedule of Veterans Day Celebration Events- Thursday, Nov. 11

Teachers will coordinate with honored guests regarding a time they can come in and speak with a classroom, either in-person or virtually. We look forward to having our traditional Veterans Day celebration in 2022. Students will tour the Veterans’ Hall of Fame the week of Nov. 11-19.

Take care,

Mr. Junge and Mr. Soderstrom
