Belvedere News and Announcements

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

Optional COVID-19 screening testing for students will begin November 15, not November 8 as previously announced. The change aligns all student screening testing start dates, making it more convenient for families with students in different grade levels. Preregistration and consent information will be shared with families soon. For all the details about COVID-19 screening testing, visit our COVID-19 Screening Testing webpage.

Screening testing is an important layered prevention strategy that helps keep our school a safe place for all students to learn. I hope you will consider enrolling your child in screening testing until your child is eligible for vaccination.

Last week, FCPS shared the 2022-23 Calendar Survey with the community and staff. Due to some technical issues, you may have had trouble opening the survey or it may have been redirected to spam or junk folders. We apologize for the inconvenience. FCPS will be sending out an updated version of the survey as soon as the technical issues are resolved.

We encourage you to complete the survey at your earliest convenience. Employees and students in grades 7-12 will be invited to take a similar survey as well. The results will be used to inform and support FCPS staff as well as the Fairfax County School Board as they work to adopt the 2022-23 calendar. All responses are confidential. If you have any questions about the survey, please email FCPSsurvey@fcps.edu.

This year, FCPS is using a different process to develop the calendar. Learn about the criteria being used in the development of the 2022-23 calendar, and about the calendar process in general, here.  You are also invited to attend a Calendar Development Webinar on Monday, November 8, 7-8 p.m. FCPS will share information on how the calendar is developed and invite you to provide feedback on a series of questions related to this process. You can register to attend the Webinar here.

Best regards,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal and Kelly Cabezas, Assistant Principal

Early Release on November 11

Parent Meeting on AAP Screening and Identification Process

The Level IV (full time) center services of the Advanced Academic Program in Fairfax County are designed for students who are highly motivated and who demonstrate an exceptional ability to apply knowledge and exceptional creative/productive thinking. In Fairfax County, there is a central-selection screening committee which reviews information on each student in grades 2-8 being considered for participation in the Level IV Advanced Academic Program. This is the time of year to start thinking about whether or not to refer your child in grades 2-8 for Level IV screening. All students need to be referred in order to be screened for services.

Please join our Advanced Academic Resources Teacher, Preshion Lynch, at one of two virtual sessions to learn about the screening and identification process for level IV (full time) AAP services:

We hope to see you there!

Support the Belvedere PTA

Our PTA supports Belvedere in myriad ways: organizing school events, enrichment and outreach activities; providing funding for field trips, library books, and technology in the classroom; and building a school community outside the classroom.

There are several ways to support the PTA:

Parent Center Resources

Our Family Liaison, Ashley Hidalgo, has created this padlet where you can view information from FCPS and outside organizations to help support our families, including information on personal finances, tutoring services for students in grades K-7, FCPS webinars, and more!

Ms. Hidalgo will continue to add resources to this padlet as she receives them.  We will highlight noteworthy items in this space as well.

Also, if you are in need of school supplies for your child, please contact Ms. Hidalgo by email or phone (703-916-6824).
