Dear Franklin Sherman Families,
With the close of the first quarter, we have much to celebrate! The photo above is a presentation of the Virginia House of Delegates Resolution in recognition of Franklin Sherman ES's eco-school program and our work during the pandemic. We were honored to have Delegate Kathleen Murphy, Supervisor John Foust and our School Board Member Elaine Tholen visit us to present the proclamation in person.
We are continuing our emphasis on keeping students and staff healthy and in school. Optional COVID-19 screening testing for students will begin November 15, not November 8 as previously announced. The change aligns all student screening testing start dates, making it more convenient for families with students in different grade levels. Screening testing is an important layered prevention strategy that helps keep our school a safe place for all students to learn. I hope you will consider enrolling your child in screening testing until your child is eligible for vaccination.
Tuesday’s news that an FDA panel has recommended Pfizer’s low dose vaccine for children ages 5-11 brings hope that we can add another layer of prevention for children during this pandemic. As we await a final decision, please know that Fairfax County Public Schools and our community partners including the Fairfax County Health Department, Inova Health System, and local pediatric groups, are working together to ensure that every family who wishes to vaccinate their children ages 5-11 will have access to the vaccine. Elementary English Language Arts
Basal instructional resources may be accessed in person and online October 26 through November 26, 2021. Digital materials for public review and comment will be available here. People reviewing the material online may complete this electronic comment sheet. In addition, hard copies of instructional resources will be available in the lobby of Willow Oaks Administrative Center. Willow Oaks is open each business day from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm and extended hours will be provided until 7:45 pm on October 26 and November 3, 2021. All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.
K - 8 Science

Fall Picture Retake Day - Postponed
Picture Retake day, previously scheduled for Oct. 26 has been postponed. The new date is yet to be determined and will published in the FLASH Newsletter and on the Franklin Sherman Website.
Students who have recently enrolled at Franklin Sherman can still order pictures online at the Lifetouch Website. If prompted enter the Picture Day ID EVTCWTQRW. Make sure that our school, Franklin Sherman Elementary School, is listed on the form when submitting your child's Name and Grade.
