Bonnie Brae ES Updates November 5

Bonnie Brae Friday Updates

Happy Friday Bonnie Brae Community,

We are looking forward to seeing many of our students and families this evening at our PTO Glow Up Event from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at BBES. This is an exciting event to wrap up our week. Looking ahead to next week, our positivity project focus will be bravery. This aligns with Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11th. We are grateful for all of the individuals who have served our country. As a way to honor our veterans, our fourth grade and music team has created a virtual concert. Details of how to access the virtual concert are below.

We hope everyone has a safe and restful weekend and are looking forward to another great week of learning.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Young, Interim Principal

Elaine Woo, Assistant Principal

COVID Weekly Update

Every week, we will provide an update on our COVID-19 status to keep you informed. Parents interested in following the daily case reporting can refer to the COVID-19 Dashboard on the FCPS website. If you have any questions about how we are staying safe so we can keep learning in person, please contact the BBES office at 703-321-3900.

Bonnie Brae reports 1 positive COVID-19 case this week. 1 is a student and 0 are staff.

5 students and staff are learning and teaching remotely while in a pause, quarantine, or isolation.

Remember, do your part to keep our school safe: Wear your mask, get vaccinated if you are eligible, practice healthy hygiene, and stay home when you are sick.

Positivity Project

Positivity Project

We continue to work to empower students to build positive relationships through the Positivity Project. Next week's focus is Bravery.

You act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary.

“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying I will try again tomorrow.”

Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day Virtual Concert

Veterans Day is November 11, and the 4th grade would like to honor the individuals who have served our country through music. Over the past several weeks, the 4th grade students have been working hard to learn songs about and in honor of our Veterans.

This year, the 4th grade will present this concert virtually. Please click this LINK to view the Veterans Day concert. Students will also have a chance to view the video with their classroom teachers.

We encourage you to share this presentation with your family, friends, and a Veteran!

We are so grateful for our Veterans and the great sacrifice they have made to serve our country.

Thank you,

4th Grade Team

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with families on Mindfulness, Positive Reinforcement, Media Balance, and Growth Mindset. Thank you to all who were able to attend! If you can, please take a moment to provide us feedback and suggestions through this survey for future Family Learning Sessions.

Student–Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

We currently have 75% of our Federal Impact Aid forms signed and returned and need help getting too 100%!  FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. We thank those of you who have already turned in your form.

Returning this form is important because FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3 million in unrestricted funds from the Impact Aid grant. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.  For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's homeroom teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5. All results are confidential

Additional information about the Impact Aid Survey can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/impact.

National School Psychology Week

During the week of November 8-12, 2021 schools throughout the United States will celebrate National School Psychology Week (NSPW) to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive. This year's theme is "Let's Get in Gear." The theme's acronym provides a challenge to grow both personally and professionally. It encourages us to engage in best practices and advocate for children's access to mental health and learning supports. To rise implies resilience and renewal despite the challenges of the past.

Thanksgiving Luncheon Update

Due to vendor and transportation issues, Food Services shared that schools will not be serving Thanksgiving lunch this year. Traditionally, this was also a community event where parents came in to support. However, due to safety protocols, this will not be happening this year.
