Federal Impact Aid Surveys
Due by November 5

HES sent these forms home on Thursday, October 14 in Thursday folders, so please check with your student. We need you to complete the pre-printed form for each student enrolled in your household.

Please complete, sign, and date each form and have your student return their form to their classroom teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5. All results are confidential

More information can be found here.

Do you need to pick up your student early?

Just a reminder... If you need to pick up your children early, please pick them up by 3:00 pm.  The last hour before school dismisses (3-4pm) is very important for all students and teachers.  Many classes are finishing lessons or coming back from specials and it is quite disruptive to call for the students at that time.  We appreciate your help in maintaining instruction time. Of course----emergency situations can be accommodated.

Also, if you are picking up your children, please leave plenty of time for us to call and for them to come to the office.  We would appreciate it if you send a note in their back pack, call, and/or email the school.  That can expedite the process.

If you have time and would like to use Kiss and Ride, the line begins shortly after 3:35 pm and the students are dismissed at 4:05 pm. The line is usually done by 4:15 pm.

Community Review of Elementary English Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources

Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new Elementary School Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources for school years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.  A review committee composed of community members, administrators, and teachers will meet in November and December to review the instructional materials under consideration and community feedback. Public review of the recommended materials is part of the process for selecting new resources.

Elementary English Language Arts basal instructional resources may be accessed in person and online October 26 through November 26, 2021. Digital materials for public review and comment will be available at the following link https://www.fcps.edu/node/36853. People reviewing the material online may complete an electronic comment sheet https://forms.gle/VKxcfabLedjYAZpS8. In addition, hard copies of instructional resources will be available in the lobby of Willow Oaks Administrative Center. Willow Oaks is open each business day from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm and extended hours will be provided until 7:45 pm on October 26 and November 3, 2021. All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.

Firefighters and Friends Drive

Dear Herndon Family:

Each year, our students benefit from supplies, toys and coats from The Firefighters and Friends Drive.  This group is a mixture of current and retired firefighters on the Route 1 corridor (Read their story here:  http://www.ffandfriends2therescue.org/ ).  They have provided support for years and now are in need of support with fundraising. The amount of time that goes into fundraising the thousands of dollars every year for the supplies, coats and toys is incredibly challenging. In order to continue our operations, they truly need us!

Please use the link that is in this email and please pass along to a friend! Any amount of support helps, and collectively it can make a great deal of difference.

Thank you.
