Franklin MS Weekly Update - October 29

The FMS Community,

Good Afternoon on this wet and rainy day. Although it is gloomy and overcast outside, there is much to celebrate at Franklin. Our students and staff have just completed the first quarter of this school year and I am extremely proud of their efforts. We also recognized this accomplishment with a fun Spirit Week that saw lots of participation throughout our school.

First quarter report cards will be distributed during the school day on Friday, November 12. Beginning in the second quarter, report cards will be only mailed to the families who have not opted in for "Go Paperless" in SIS.

I hope that the long weekend is an opportunity for our students to relax, recharge, and enjoy being middle school students in a safe and responsible way.

As always, any member of the Franklin community can reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu. Your feedback, questions, and concerns are always appreciated.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Federal Impact Aid Survey Information

The Impact Aid Program is a federal grant program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned and therefore tax exempt property.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid forms were sent home with all students earlier this month. If you have not already done so, please check with your child to obtain the form. If an additional copy of the form is needed, please contact Kristine Smith. For more information on the Federal Impact Aid form, please click here for more information.

All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5.

Veterans Day 2021

Franklin Family, are you or a family member a veteran or someone who is currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces? If so, please consider the following opportunity. The Franklin MS Civics team is creating a video compilation of Franklin Community members who have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, to go with a music tribute from our wonderful music department. If you would be willing to share a part of your story or experiences with us, we would love to hear from you so we can share what you have to say with our students. A link to an interest form can be found here, and in the FMS all school schoology page. Thank you for your consideration, time and service.

Library Updates

Thank you to all students and staff who have been responsible library users this first quarter of the school year. Over 3000 printed books and ebooks have been checked out from the library this year. We have more than 250 new books on the way based on requests and newly published items. Please help students remember to return books they are finished reading to the library, or renew those they still want to finish. Please contact Mrs. Ruffle with any questions or check in the Schoology Library Course.

Franklin MS After School Program Information

All Franklin students are welcome to attend the After School Program. There is no After School Program on early release days or student holidays. Our late bus days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with parent pick up on Tuesdays and Fridays. New activities include the Urban Gardening Club, Flag Football, and a Top Chef interest meeting. Many of our clubs are “open enrollment”, meaning students are welcome to start attending whenever they are ready. The schedule for next week can be found here. For questions regarding the After School Program, please email Mrs. Mollé.
