Emergency Care Information

Health Information in the Emergency Care form provides valuable information regarding student health conditions. This information is critical in identifying students who may need healthcare support while at school or on the bus. Parents/guardians are reminded that they can provide this information online via their SIS ParentVue accounts within the weCare@school module (located under “FCPS Links” on the SIS Menu).

NOTE: If you have recently updated your child’s information in school year 2020-2021, it is not necessary to resend the Emergency Care Form unless contact information or health conditions have changed.

To review your child’s Health Information:

  1. Login to SIS ParentVue
  2. Click on FCPS Links and select the “weCare@school - Update Emergency Care Info” option
  3. Click on plus sign beside the student’s name and choose:
    1. Current Health Conditions
  1. If applicable, choose “Yes” for “Does your child have a health condition that requires support at school?” This will open where the parent can make updates that will transfer to the Health Information Form for the PHN to review.
    1. Current Medical Care Details
  1. If a parent needs to make changes to the Medical Information on File, they will need to contact the school.  The school will contact the PHN.  This is for the child’s safety.
  1. Click “Save Changes”
  2. If you do not wish to update “Parent/Guardian Contact Information” or “Other Information” (Emergency Contacts/Insurance details, etc.) at this time, click “Send the Form”. Otherwise, select the link for the other information to be updated, save changes to each and select “Send the Form” when you’ve completed your updates.
  3. You will see confirmation that your updates have been submitted.

Tardies

This week Parents/Guardians received an email with information regarding the number of times their student was late (tardy) to class during the 1st Quarter. During 2nd Quarter students will be assigned detention if they are tardy to three or more classes in one week. Students could be assigned to a lunch detention or an after-school detention. Parents/Guardians will be notified when students are assigned detention. If you have questions regarding tardies, please reach out to your grade level assistant principal:

7th grade - Melissa Montgomery -  MLMontgomery@fcps.edu

8th grade - Lynda Nocera - LKNocera@fcps.edu

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology

The TJHSST application window is open now and will close on Friday, November 19, at 4:00pm. Students, not parents, must initiate the application process and may do so by visiting the TJ Admissions website, selecting “Freshman Application Process”: https://www.fcps.edu/tjadmissions.  Once there, students can check the eligibility requirements, view the 21-22 calendar,  and access the online application. Components of the application and detailed steps for application completion are outlined on this same page. TJ will be offering virtual Q&A sessions in the near future so please continue to check the admissions website for updates. If you have any questions or your child needs assistance, please contact TJ liaison counselor Leslie Pilotti at lmpilotti@fcps.edu or 703-313-3740.

PTA Updates

Tiger Night

Tiger Night is Cancelled. Unfortunately, due to the forecasted heavy rain, high winds and flash flood warnings, we will not be able to have Tiger Night tonight. Mr. Miller will send out a message as well. No rain date is scheduled. Thank you to all those on the team organizing the event. We appreciate all their efforts

Staff of the Month

Congratulations to our October Staff of the Month: Geralyn Clinton, 7th and 8th grade counselor. She has been accessible, proactive and responsive to communications. Returning to in-person learning comes with some social and emotional challenges for many. Her gentle and approachable interactions with students are an incredible asset. Thank you Geralyn!

Each month, the administration and the PTA jointly recognize an outstanding teacher or staff member at Twain. The honoree receives an awesome certificate, a $25 gift card and an amazing parking spot close to the building.  It’s just a small way to say thank you to our fantastic teachers and staff members who go that extra mile!

To nominate someone deserving, like the Twain PTA page on Facebook or join the Twain PTA! We send out a call for nominations about one week before the general PTA meeting. The next one will be on Tuesday, November 30, 7:00 PM on Zoom.

Odyssey of the Mind

Does your child love to build, create, write, sing or act? Then Odyssey of the Mind might be for them! In this completely student-led activity, students meet to solve problems in creative ways, culminating in an online competition. Students will have a parent supervise them and will meet at a parent’s home. Registration is open now and will run through November 15.  The online competition is March 5.

Here is the sign-up form: https://forms.gle/FhdayzeX1wdqihwp9

If you have questions, please contact mtmsodyssey@gmail.com.

What’s for dinner?

On November 9 or 10, plan to dine in or get carryout from Olympians Family Restaurant at 6430 Landsdowne Centre, Alexandria, Va. You just need to mention that your purchase is for the Twain Middle School and Olympians will donate a percentage to the Twain PTA.
