Dear Parents & Guardians,
We hope you have a wonderful 4-day weekend with your children! Teachers will be working hard over the next few Teacher Workdays to get caught up on grading, planning, finalizing progress reports, and conducting parent teacher conferences. Friday, October 29 is the last day of 1st quarter and we will be starting 2nd quarter on Wednesday, November 3. We hope that your families find some time to connect in a meaningful way over this 4-day weekend that helps to bring your family closer together.
This is also a great time for families to sit down and reflect with students on the successes of first quarter and also to consider some of the challenges. As you are discussing these successes and challenges with your children, please know that we at GBW are happy to partner with families to better support all of our students. In addition to the parent teacher conferences you may have already scheduled, feel free to reach out to the Principals or our Wellness Team to schedule a meeting to share successes and challenges your children or family might be experiencing. We are here for you, and would be more than happy to schedule a meeting with your family.
Sincerely,
Andrew Blount, Principal, asblount@fcps.edu
Jordan Cook, Assistant Principal, jccook@fcps.edu

Sub and Save the Day!
FCPS needs substitute teachers. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. Like many school districts across the region and country, FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. If you are interested in substitute teaching, you can set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist. GBW is always looking for good substitutes!!
Get more information about substitute teaching here.

November 11 is Veterans Day and GBW would like to take the opportunity to thank our Veteran, Active Duty, and Reserve members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force and Space Force. We know the total number of Active Duty family members at our school, but we would also like to determine the number of Veterans so we may celebrate and thank them for their service. Please fill out this survey if you are a Veteran.

Registration extended through November 4!
The PTA recently made the change that we are extending registration to Nov. 4th with regular race registration rates.
As part of our year-long celebration of our 50th Anniversary, participants will run/walk/jog around our school and will be sprayed and doused with color at the finish line. Come dressed in a white shirt so the colors will show up better! Rest assured, all colors will wash out. This year’s proceeds will benefit Greenbriar West Elementary’s PTA.
Please note this is not a drop-off event. Parents are required to supervise their children at all times.
Registration includes color packets & T-shirt! Credit card payment accepted at https://gbwpta.ptboard.com. Checks or cash accepted. We are in need of volunteers for this event (registration, color blasters, medal distributors, etc.) so if you’re able to help out, please contact greenbriarwestpta@gmail.com.
