WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

character collage

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

We loved seeing all of our characters at school on Friday on our first SCA Spirit Day of the year. At the end of each quarter, we dance and celebrate our hard work. Friday was a wonderful end to our first quarter.

WFES has unfilled substitute vacancies almost every day. Vacancies mean our school resources are stretched, which impacts our staff and students. If you know someone who may be interested in serving as a substitute, please direct them here: https://www.fcps.edu/careers/career-opportunities/substitute-teaching-opportunities

Veteran’s Day is approaching on November 11.  This is another early release day for students.  We want to honor our Veterans on our morning news show.  If you have a veteran in your family, we’d love for you to send us a digital photo to share with students.  Please send your photos to jsruskin@fcps.edu.

If you are looking for a spot to donate your extra Halloween candy, we keep a staff candy drawer as a morale booster. We are always open to candy donations!

Thank you.

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

In-School COVID Screening Update

Optional COVID-19 screening testing for students will begin November 15, not November 8 as previously announced. The change aligns all student screening testing start dates, making it more convenient for families with students in different grade levels. Preregistration and consent information will be shared with families soon. For all the details about COVID-19 screening testing, visit our COVID-19 Screening Testing webpage.

Screening testing is an important layered prevention strategy that helps keep our school a safe place for all students to learn. I hope you will consider enrolling your child in screening testing until your child is eligible for vaccination.

Book Fair

Fall Book Fair is Coming November 8-12

The WFES Library is happy to announce that we will be holding an in-person fall book fair the week of 11/8-11/12! Students will have the opportunity to shop our large selection of books during the school hours each day. Keep an eye out for a detailed schedule of book fair hours and an overview of the offerings in Thursday folders on 10/28 and 11/4. Please note that we will NOT be hosting an evening event for this fair, and parents will not be permitted in the building during school hours for shopping.

Online shopping will be available starting 11/5 at the following:

https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wfes.

We are also looking for a limited number of volunteers to help set up, run, and pack up the fair. If you are interested in helping out, please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084cadaf2ea31-fall2 to sign up. All volunteers must be WFES parents and must wear a mask at all times while at the book fair and on school grounds. Please contact WFES librarian Amy Rapuano at alrapuano@fcps.edu for any questions.
