Students learned to create museum exhibits and showed off what they learned about ladybugs. The museums were open to other students and staff this week, and we got to learn about these very special insects from third grade experts.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

Beginning on October 13, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5. All results are confidential

More information is available online.

Thank you, Principals!

INOVA

In 2021, three improvements have been made for Medicaid/FAMIS programs and their requirements. The 40-Quarter rule has been eliminated for lawful permanent residents, as they no longer are required to have 40 qualifying quarters of work. Adults 21 and over now have access to a new comprehensive dental benefit that includes regular dental visits. Lastly, a new FAMIS Prenatal benefit has been introduced for ALL income-eligible pregnant women, regardless of their immigration status.

Local bilingual Outreach Workers with Inova Partnership for Healthier Communities, provide free 1:1 assistance to anyone who wants to learn about, apply for, or renew Medicaid/FAMIS coverage.

Partnership for Healthier Communities (PHC) not only provides Medicaid/FAMIS programs application assistance, but hosts virtual events for clients to better understand the programs and what occurs after they are approved. To register for their baby shower or Medicaid workshop events, they have created an easy online registration form.

PHC has expanded their team across Northern Virginia and in partnership with Inova Cares Clinics for Families (ICCF), have team members in satellite locations at Annandale, Alexandria, Sterling and Manassas. At ICCF, workers offer application assistance for Medicaid and Inova financial assistance to cover their medical bills.

Outreach Workers are committed to providing you with a smooth application process and support, every step of the way. Partnership for Healthier Communities is easy to reach, whether through telephone, email, or their online referral form.

PTA News

PTA

The PTA hosted a Staff & Teacher Appreciation Coffee Tuesday as well as treating Principal Usher and Assistant Principal Doyle to lunch and t-shirts! You can see the photos in our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weyanokepta

Thank you to all who came to our October PTA meeting on the 21st!  It was very successful, and wonderful to hear from Ms. Mani about the Level IV program. Thank you, Ms. Mani!

We were also able to fill our Vice President of Communications position during the meeting! Thank you so much for volunteering for the position, Janice Austin (mother of one daughter in Kindergarten). We're excited to have you on board!

Thank you so much Principal Usher, for all that you do! - from the entire PTA membership.

October is National Principal Appreciation month, which Principal Usher makes so easy for us! The last couple of years have been very rough, and she has gone above and beyond to not only ensure our students’ academic success, but she has also worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of every person in the school, often with little or rapidly changing guidance. With each new challenge, she has led with boldness as a true expert in what Weyanoke and our students need.

A very big thank you to Assistant Principal Doyle as well! The PTA treated them both to lunch yesterday, hoping to make one day at least a little easier!

We are currently seeking Volunteer Chairpeople for Career Day and Spelling Bee.
