Floris Families,
It was a short, but busy week. We have started the second quarter and continue to see learning and joy throughout the school.
Although the weather continued to cause changes to the Harvest Parade, we were able to do an indoor parade. We are so glad to have been able to have this annual tradition in-person this year for the students.
Next week is a busy one as well. Tuesday morning (11/9) is our photo make-up and retake date. If your child missed the original picture day or you want a retake, please ensure your child is picture ready on Tuesday morning. On Thursday, all FCPS schools have a two-hour early release in honor of Veterans' Day. Our dismissal time at Floris on Thursday, November 11 is 2:00pm.
As we enter this month of Thanksgiving, we want to share our gratitude with our staff and families for making Floris such as wonderful community. We want to share special thanks to the Floris PTA for their support. Please remember to support our PTA through Friends of Floris.
Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday (11/7). Remember to turn back your clocks one hour before you go to bed on Saturday.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Holly Walker, Principal, hjwalker@fcps.edu
Amanda Dorr, Assistant Principal, acdorr@fcps.edu

Forgiveness
What Does FORGIVENESS Mean? Forgiveness is the ability to move past being injured and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you. Forgiveness can often be seen as a selfless act, but it also carries many benefits for those who practice it. Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. Forgiveness is often rooted in the idea that all people are valuable and worthy of a second chance.
Why does it Matter? For individuals, forgiveness has benefits that range from increased health to developing positive relationships to coming to an understanding that no one is without fault. Remaining bitter and angry increases your stress levels. Forgiveness helps an individual release that resentment and repair or strengthen his/her relationships.
Quote of the Week: “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” -Mahatma GandhiI

Optional COVID-19 Screening Testing for Students
Optional COVID-19 screening testing for students will begin November 15, not November 8 as previously announced. The change aligns all student screening testing start dates, making it more convenient for families with students in different grade levels. Preregistration and consent information will be shared with families soon. For all the details about COVID-19 screening testing, visit our COVID-19 Screening Testing webpage. Screening testing is an important layered prevention strategy that helps keep our school a safe place for all students to learn. We hope you will consider enrolling your child in screening testing until your child is eligible for vaccination.
