Dear TLES Families,
We had another busy week of incredible learning experiences. Please see our TLES Facebook page to get a glimpse of all of the wonderful learning experiences your child is experiencing at TLES. As we move into some colder weather please have students begin to prepare for outdoor lunches and recess with coats, hats and gloves. We will continue to go outside throughout the winter months when the playground and blacktop are dry and safe for students. Outside lunch will continue on any day that it is 50 degrees or warmer between our lunch times of 10:45am-1:45pm.
On Friday, October 29, we will have an optional Character Day. Students may choose to dress up as their favorite book character, wear a costume that's hanging around the house, or choose to wear a cool item of their choosing. We will also have some DIY (do-it-yourself) crafts during some rainy indoor recesses this week to provide items for any student interested in creating and putting something on for the 29th. If your child chooses to participate in this spirit day, please ensure that they have a school appropriate costume including no weapons or full face masks. Protective masks covering the mouth/nose are still required. Hats will be allowed but many not fully cover the head and face.
On Friday, October 29th we will be bringing back our costume parade on Character Day which Kindergarten and First Grade will participate in. Due to the weather calling for rain, we will have to host this parade through the hallways the morning of the 29th for grades K & 1. Unfortunately we will not be able to host parents during that time. Students will be dismissed two hours early at 1:30 that day.
Teachers will be meeting with families as the quarter ends to discuss each student's progress and goals for the remainder of the year. Many teachers have already begun their first quarter conferences/family check-ins. If you haven't done so already, please sign up for a Quarter 1 Conference. The partnership between teachers and families is critical for the success of our students!

Returning to school after being sent home with a Covid-like illness
With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want them back in the classroom as soon as they are well. Starting Monday, October 4, the Return to School form is no longer needed, we will follow the following guidelines.
Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:
|
Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:
|
OR |
Physician’s Note Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school. |
Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school.
If you have any questions about this new process, or how to navigate your child’s return to school, please call the school at 703-206-5300.
