Hello Justice HS Students, Families, and Community Members: headshot

We have had a weekend full of school spirit, Justice pride, and winning! On Friday night our football team secured the win at the annual Bell Game against our rival, Falls Church HS; on Saturday our cheer team won the National District Cheer Championship for the first time in 16 years; and also on Saturday our marching band earned the 1st place spot in their band competition.  I must say, this was an awesome way to end the work week and begin another fabulous week of teaching and learning!

Throughout the week, we’ve had meetings and discussions with our staff to tackle the growing concerns listed below:

  • Students skipping and/or roaming halls during class time
  • Adding additional tardy sweeps to the day
  • Classroom cell phone policy

In an effort to keep you informed, I will begin to communicate our efforts surrounding these and other matters and update you as we continue to create effective and sustainable systems at Justice High School.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener - October 18thOn October 18th, we will administer our first Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener during our Advisory period.  Justice’s Student Support Team will use the screener to identify strengths and needs for our students related to SEL skills. SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The screener will review these skills, as well as students’ relationships, feelings of belonging, feelings about their school environment, and mood.

Learn more about the screener and review the questions here. To opt your student out of participating in the screener, please complete the opt-out form found here and return to your student's W4 teacher by October 8.

Impact Aid: FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources. On October 20, the survey will be distributed to all Justice HS students during advisory. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey by November 5. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. FCPS staff will process the information with the utmost confidentiality. To ensure complete accuracy, please use the pre-filled survey form that is sent home with your child. If it is not available, please contact Candace Hyman at 703-824-3985. For questions regarding the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid, please call 703-329-7750 or email ImpactAid@fcps.edu. Additional information about Impact Aid programs and grants is available on the U.S. Department of Education's website at DoED Impact Aid Programs.

Opt-In AP Exams: Reminder the deadline for your student(s) to opt-in to take AP exams for college credit is November 1. The fee is $95 per exam.  Please make checks payable to Justice High School.  You may mail payment to the school or drop off in H135.  Please note:  If your student is currently enrolled in AP Statistics or online AP courses, then they do not need to opt-in to those exams.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Shelley Terry, AP Coordinator, at sdterry@fcps.edu.

Underclassmen Photos: All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will have their school pictures taken through their English classes on October 26th and 27th.   Students should come prepared that day for their pictures.  Information on different packages that may be purchased will be made available through students’ fourth period classes.

Senior Portraits: Seniors will have another opportunity to have their school portraits taken during the week of November 29th through December 3rd.  Seniors will receive another email reminding them of the sign up process for a time slot on one of those days.   Students should check their email later this week for details.  This will be the same sign up process as before.  Pictures will be taken in the Little Theatre.

Digital Resource Consent

At Justice High School, our teachers will use a variety of powerful digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. Without consent, teachers will need to plan additional lessons or deviate from a useful application altogether. You can find our school’s list of the resources here: https://justicehs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Please follow this link to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval.
