Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

Beginning on October 13, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

This survey will be sent home with each student tomorrow, October 13th. It is important for you to fill out and return the form for every FCPS student in your household.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned as soon as possible. All results are confidential

Please click here for more information.

Early pick up

Early Student Pick-ups

On occasion you may need to pull your student from school early.  It helps our staff locate your child in a timely manner and have them ready sooner if we have  advance notice.  We understand that this is not always possible, but if it is please email  Fairhill ES Attendance  before noon so that we can communicate with the teacher earlier in the day.  This will let us know the precise location of your student when you arrive.  Also, please be aware that if you pick your student up after 3:30 p.m. you will not be able to leave before dismissal unless you park on Chichester Lane.  Our Kiss and Ride lane is full at that time, blocking the parking lot, and the buses are blocking the front driveway at that time.  Thank you for helping us with a smooth early pick up of your student.

Picture Retake Day

Save the date for Fall Picture Retakes! A photographer from Strawbridge Studios will be at Fairhill on 10/28/2021 to photograph any fall retakes.  If your student did not have their picture taken or you would like a retake of your child's existing photo please sign up by clicking here.  Also, please see this form you can use.

Veteran's Day Flipgrid

Each year, Fairhill honors veterans by showing a Veterans Day slide deck that showcases staff members’ families on the morning of Veterans Day. New this year, we are inviting military connected Fairhill students to interview military connected family members for a Q&A session via Flipgrid. Students will be given a list of guiding questions and are welcome to be creative and encouraged to have fun when creating the Flipgrid.  The FlipGrid will then be shared with Fairhill classroom teachers to honor Veterans Day. Flipgrid is a familiar video sharing app that students can easily access and navigate and require only a handful of steps to create and submit a video.

If you are interested in participating in this optional activity with your child, or have a family member who would be interested in participating with a Fairhill student

  1. Visit: https://flipgrid.com/2c3eb103 - under “Have a guest password?” enter FESinterviews
  2. Recordings can be done from a laptop or through the app. Search for Flipgrid in the app store – video recordings have a 10 minute limit.

Included are some Q&A guiding questions:

    1. What branch of the military were/are you in?
    2. What is your rank, or what was your rank upon discharge?
    3. How many years have you served/did you serve?
    4. What made you want to join the military?
    5. What kinds of jobs have you done while serving in the military?
    6. What kinds of skills did you/do you learn and use in the military that you use in other parts of your life?
    7. Where have you been posted?
    8. Which is/was your favorite post and why?
    9. What would you say to someone who wants to join the military? Any tips for success for Fairhill students who are interested in a military career

Flipgrid recordings are due by November 8th.

Thank you in advance for your participation in Fairhill’s Veterans Day, 2021!

fall festival

Mark your calendars, the Fairhill Fall Festival is back!  This will be our first big PTA event since before covid and we are looking forward to bringing our community together for a fun, safe and spooky party!

Please join us on Friday, October 29 from 4:30 - 7:30pm for our outdoor Fall Festival.  See below for details of the event.

Festival Activities

This year's Fall Festival will be held outside in front of the school.

Food trucks will park in the in the parking lot in front of the school.  Please see the attached menus to get a preview of dinner options.

Uncle Fred's BBQ

Charlie's Bowl

Carnival games will be set up in the bus loading area and under the front awning.

The 6th graders will carry on their Fright Walk tradition in the cafeteria this year.  Families will enter the Fright Walk through the cafeteria door by the Kiss and Ride entrance.  They will follow a one way path through the cafeteria and exit through the doors near the office.  Masks will be required in the Fright Walk.

Parking

Families may park on the blacktop, in the side parking lot (kiss and ride) or on Chichester.  Parking will be limited.  We recommend walking, if that is an option.

Tickets

All carnival games and the Fright Walk will cost 1 ticket each.  To reduce ticket lines, tickets can be pre-ordered and picked up at the will call table the night of the festival.  Tickets will also be for sale at the festival.  To pre-order your tickets, click here.  We highly recommend pre-ordering your tickets to avoid crowding the ticket table.

Fall Festival Goodie Bags

Who doesn't enjoy a goodie bag?  Bring the spirit of the festival home in a fall festival themed goodie bag.  Each bag costs $5 and can be ordered here.  Goodie bags will be picked up at the festival.

Nothing Bundt Cakes Sale

Order your cakes now and pick them up after dismissal on October 29 or at the Fall Festival.  Order deadline is October 22.   Fairhill will receive $2 from each cake purchased! Click here to pre-order your bundt cakes.

Covid Protocols

In an effort to reduce crowd size, we have extended this year's Fall Festival to 3 hours (in the past, the festival is only 2 hours).

Masks will be required in the Fright Walk and if in the school building to use the restrooms.  We highly encourage masks while enjoying the food trucks and carnival games.

Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the festival.

Carnival games will be spaced out to reduce crowding.
