Wellness Screening for 7th and 8th Grade Students

We will be conducting a Wellness Screening for 7th and 8th grade students in the coming weeks.  The 8th grade screening will take place on October 19th and 26th, and the 7th grade screening will take place on November 9th and 16th.  Signs of Suicide (SOS) is offered to help assess whether students may have symptoms consistent with depression.  Depression is a treatable illness, and effective treatment of depression helps to prevent suicide, as well as significant behavioral, social, and educational problems.

More details are included in the enotify messages that were sent out this month.  If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in this depression awareness and prevention session, please complete this OPT OUT FORM.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Angie Huber, School Social Worker, at (703) 988-8222 or aahuber@fcps.edu and Joanna Wheeler, School Psychologist, at (703) 988-8132 or jwheeler@fcps.edu

Tardy Policy at Liberty

There are many reasons why students are expected to be on time to class. Tardiness reduces the instructional time for the student who is late. A student's tardiness interrupts the class he or she is coming into, resulting in a loss of instructional quality and time for all students. Students late to class frequently are noisy in the halls and disturb surrounding classrooms. Students late to class create additional work for teachers and the attendance office. Punctuality is a practice valued by high school, college, business and society. All students will benefit from developing a habit of being on time to class.

Liberty has always had a tardy policy which includes teaching students about being on time to class, opportunities for students to be reminded, communication with families, and additional steps that are implemented when students are repeatedly late to class. Please take a look at the Liberty Middle School tardy policy. We ask for your continued support in helping our students to be successful learners and being on time for class.
