Lemon Road Community News 10.8.21

Message from Mrs. Castillo

SCA

Today we closed out a gorgeous fall week with the installation of our SCA Officers and a growing storybook pumpkin patch in our library. Thank you parents and students for the amazing pumpkin submissions – it was a lot of fun walking around and seeing more than 125 decorated pumpkins! Congratulations to our elected officers and a big thank you to the SCA sponsors – Ms. Benson and Mr. Van Trees.

Parents, please be sure to log into ParentVue – as you log in you will be asked to sign off in acknowledgement to the Student Rights and Responsibilities agreement for the 2021 – 2022 school year. If you have questions, please check this link: https://www.fcps.edu/srr

Thank you for collaborating with us to keep our students healthy and safe. We are so grateful for the support we have had at lunch! We continue to need volunteers every day during lunch – both indoors and outside. Please sign up and volunteer with us whenever you can. If you (or a neighbor, acquaintance, or friend) are interested in being paid to support lunch 10:30 – 1:30 daily or work as a monitor, please contact Mr. Birge at mbirge@fcps.edu. We are able to hire someone to support us up to 7 hours each school day.

Have a great long weekend.  We look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday!

Mindmapping: October Critical and Creative Thinking Strategy

MindMaps

Mindmapping helps make visual representation of ideas around a central idea as well as provides a canvas for organizing ideas and representing connections. It is a method of visual note taking that helps students organize information in unique and personal ways. You might see students use mindmapping in the classroom as a summative assessment, a way to keep track of story elements in a chapter book, or a way to organize their thinking during a science or social studies unit.

In our first meeting, students in grades 2-6 developed mindmaps on a topic of their choice. Topics ranged from themselves, Lemon Road, video games, books, and even science topics like biology or dinosaurs! In grades K-1, students learned about symbols and began creating a symbol dictionary to use when they begin mapping next time we meet.

Dance-a-Thon

Fundraiser

We’re less than 2 weeks away from our Lemon Road Lions Dance-A-Thon! Our goal is to raise $15,000 to support math and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) learning at Lemon Road.

The fundraiser will take place DURING the school day and ALL students will participate. The company putting the Dance-a-Thon on uses the popular video game Just Dance. Students will head to the gym during their specials block during the day for a fun experience dancing and raising money for the school.

We want all families to get registered by October 19th! Log on to MYBOOSTER.COM today and enter your family’s details. We are working hard to make this fundraiser safe, fun, and successful for everyone!

Key dates to remember:

  • DONATING STARTS - 10/12
  • Fundraiser Kick Off - 10/19
  • Event Day - 10/27

Thank you for working with us to make our school stronger. We are grateful for your support!

Integrity

Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching.  People with integrity practice what they preach and maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values. They have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs. Integrity is closely aligned with the terms of honesty and authenticity. People with integrity tell the truth and have alignment in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
