Good evening, Glen Forest families!

I am proud to say that we have had a very successful first month of school!  Despite navigating the pandemic and wearing masks all day, it is so refreshing to have all of our Eagles in the building under one roof.  Thank you for sharing your children with us and entrusting us with their education.  We value and love each and every one of them.

Our teachers have been busy building relationships with your students, as well as assessing where they are in the learning process.  If your child’s teacher had any concerns, either academically or with work habits, you should have received an interim in the Tuesday folder on October 5th.  Please review the interim, sign that you acknowledge, and return to school.  An interim is one important communication tool to inform parents about their children’s progress.  You will be contacted soon to schedule a virtual parent-teacher conference by the end of the first quarter.

PTO Membership Drive - Hopefully you have seen two fliers in the Tuesday folders asking for your family to join the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization).  Our PTO supports your students by   The class in each grade level with the most memberships by October 29th will have a Popsicles Party, compliments of the PTO!  Since the fee is $25 per family, each one of your children’s classrooms will receive credit for signing up.  Thank you in advance for your support of the PTO!

Family Life Education

Families wishing to preview the Family Life Education lessons, please visit the Parent Preview - FLE Instruction folder in the All Parents Schoology Course. Lessons have been shared for students in grades K-12. Opt-out forms can be found by clicking here and scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders:  Please make sure your child arrives on time to school if he/she is a walker or Kiss N Ride.  Our doors open at 9:08am and the late bell rings at 9:20am.  Our teachers start the day right away and sometimes a child can feel a bit anxious if he/she has missed announcements or directions.  If a bus arrives on campus after 9:20am, they will not be counted tardy.  In the afternoon, we dismiss at 4:05pm.  We ask that you are here on time if you pick up your child.  Thank  you so much for your cooperation.

COVID Updates -  We continue to take safety measures in response to the pandemic.  Hand washing, hand sanitizing, cleaning surfaces, and extra spacing at lunch remains a priority.  Please know that our students, your children, are doing a wonderful job following the guidelines.

If we have a positive case at Glen Forest ES, I will communicate this to you on Friday of that week.  If your child has been considered a “close contact” to a COVID-positive person, you will be informed and your student will most likely be put on “pause” while the Fairfax County Health Department conducts their investigation.  While “paused,” the classroom teacher will be offering either recording of the math and language arts lesson or a live stream.  Also available will be asynchronous activities.  Clearance to return to the school comes from the Health Department, not the school.  If I am notified before the family that the student is cleared, I will let you know.  At times, the family may find out before the school and vice versa.

New Staff Position, COVID Case Manager:  The county has provided funding for every school to hire a COVID Case Manager.  We have hired Dr. Vanessa Cossio.  Her role is to assess students with COVID-like symptoms and communicate with families, staff, and the Health Department when necessary.  If you are asked to come pick up your child, she is likely the person to bring you your child and explain the process for being able to return to school.  If you need to contact her, her email is vcossio@fcps.edu.  We are very appreciative of her expertise and support.
