FH Weekly Update - 10/10/21

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

We hope all have a pleasant 3-day weekend as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day tomorrow.

Today we'd like to review new health guidelines. With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want them back in the classroom as soon as they are well. Starting Monday, October 4, the Return to School form is no longer needed, we will follow the following guidelines:

Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:

Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:

  • PCR (test result from lab or physician)
  • Rapid (test result from lab or physician)
  • Home Test (picture of negative home test AND note from parent attesting the result is for the specific child and to the date the test was administered)

Physician’s Note

Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school.

Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a  positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school.

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

PTA Updates

Thank you for a great Walk/Bike to School day! Hope everyone had fun. Props to Sam Lee for planning it!

Join us for our 2nd PTA meeting of the year on Thursday, October 14th. We'll talk about upcoming plans for the fall and have a Q&A with Dr. Z. Join us here or call in to 301-715-8592 and enter Meeting ID: 958 6180 1480.

We can't wait to spend a Halloween Spooky Movie Night with you on Friday, October 22nd! We'll be outside on the black top so bring your blankets and yoga mats to sit on and tune in for the show. While we aren't charging for formal admission fees, we are asking for a suggested donation for the evening of activities ($5 per person, $10 per family, more always welcome) which you can send via Pay4SchoolStuff. You can also pre-order Dominoes Pizza on Pay4SchoolStuff thanks to our 6th grade who'll be managing that. All the details on the night are here in the flier! Visit Pay4SchoolStuff to get your donations and pre-orders in or turn in a check with the form here. Thank you to Ms. Tori and the SACC team and Mr. Fenton for helping us with all the details!

Take a night off cooking and join us at Chipotle and Cold Stone Ice Cream on Maple Ave. on Tuesday, Oct. 26th from 5-9pm. A portion of the proceeds will help raise funds for the PTA so come out, get carry out and spread the word to your friends!

TEACHER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST, WED. OCT. 27th Help thank our teachers for a busy first quarter with our Teacher Appreciation team, led by Sara Lyon and Sechin Lee. Donate on Pay4SchoolStuff by marking "teacher appreciation" to help contribute to a lovely breakfast to treat our teachers on Oct. 27th! Or turn in this flier form with your donation to the PTA mailbox in the front office.

Congratulations to Jessica Cotto who won the September PTA Member raffle! Turn in your PTA membership to enter a win a gift card by end of October. The PTA is a volunteer-driven organization that helps with programs, activities and traditions NOT provided by FCPS. Things like: capital improvements (new water filling stations), Reading Materials (replenishing classroom libraries), Teacher Wishlists, Technology needs (like Peardeck) and many events through out the year? We have a membership goal to raise $10,000 this year. Do what you can and become a member. See Family Forms details here and Teacher discount form here. See our cool thank you gifts in our Family Forms. You can sign up online at http://www.pay4schoolstuff.com too!
