Dear Franklin Sherman Families,
I hope that you have enjoyed the 3 day weekend with your children. Have you ever wondered what our staff does on these staff development and teacher workdays? Staff development days are so important for our staff. Today, our staff was able to spend time engaging in professional learning and collaborating with their team or even teachers in other buildings as the prepare for the rest of this quarter and beyond. Time to plan and collaborate is critical for allowing our staff to grow and develop. We appreciate your support through this process.
Thank you to the PTA for organizing 2 great opportunities last week; first with the dining out at Chipotle and then with Kona Ice on Friday.

Heritage Months and Cultural Observances
In the United States, Heritage Months are periods within the year that are designated to celebrate and acknowledge various ethnic and marginalized groups. These are times not only to celebrate, but also to educate others on various groups’ histories and contributions to American History. These are important times that help us to understand some of our own cultures and identities, as well as others.
Featuring National Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15, 2021 - October 15, 2021 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. FCPS Social Studies has published resources and materials on the new, Planning for National Hispanic Heritage Month a new Google Site, to support K-12 teachers of all subject areas seeking guidance and meaningful learning experiences about Hispanic American perspectives, contributions, and cultures.

Fall Picture Retake Day
Picture Retake day is October 26th.
Students who have already ordered pictures but would like to have their picture retaken will have the opportunity to do so.
Student who have recently enrolled at Franklin Sherman can still order pictures online at the Lifetouch Website. If prompted enter the Picture Day ID EVTCWTQRW. Make sure that our school, Franklin Sherman Elementary School, is listed on the form when submitting your child's Name and Grade.
