Dear Whitman Community,
This week we roared into October! Students are completing the new Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) testing requirement called the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) in reading and mathematics. We will be using the results to help tailor our instruction for our students.
As we leave September behind, I want to thank families for speaking to their students about the destructive social media challenge asking our students to vandalize bathrooms for fun. This was both costly and caused us to close many bathrooms. With that said, I want to assure parents that students may use the bathroom any time during the day they wish. We have put in place a few guidelines to limit the possibility of property damage but please let your students know that they can ask their teacher or any administrator in the hallway and we will make sure they get to a restroom.
On Thursday, October 21, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, the PTSA will be holding their annual Fall Festival! We will be selling tickets during lunch starting next week. For $10, a student can get food, participate in all the games, go through the haunted hallways, and visit all of the trunk or treat stations out front.
