New Process for Returning to the Classroom After Illness

With the cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home if they have COVID-like symptoms. We want them back in the classroom as soon as they are well, so we’ve created new options to help families complete the return to school process. Learn more online.

Picture Day

School Pictures

School photos will be taken of every student on Wednesday, October 13. These photos will be the student’s yearbook picture.

Parents are encouraged to order pictures in advance. If a student does not order pictures, they will get a "receipt" with a sample picture and order code. From there, they can order. It is best for families to order before or on Picture day. Any late order will incur a $7 shipping fee and pictures will be shipped to the individual homes instead of the school.

Coming Soon - Federal Impact Aid

The federal presence in our area and the significant tax exemptions available to federally connected personnel, businesses, and agencies has qualified Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) to be eligible for Federal Impact Aid grants.

Impact Aid programs and grants are designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget and are critical to ensuring that all children in FCPS receive an excellent education.

FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 annually in Impact Aid funds.

FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources.

On October 13, the survey will be distributed to ALL FCPS families.

When To Reach Out To Your Child’s Teacher?

No matter what concerns you may have, there are always professionals to talk with at school. But typically, it’s best to speak with your child’s teacher first. Many issues can be resolved by speaking to the teacher directly and please, don’t hesitate to reach out regarding issues such as:

  • behavior
  • homework, testing, and classroom support
  • general classroom concerns and ongoing communication

The teacher will listen and address your concerns or will in turn reach out and connect you with the right person for different issues. Always remember that partnering with your child’s teacher can help your child have a more positive outlook on school.

Security

In order to provide the most secure and comfortable setting for students, the following procedures will apply:

  • All students who are dismissed during the school day will be dismissed through the office and signed out. The parent MUST come to the office with photo ID to SIGN OUT the student. Children will not be called to the office until the parent/guardian has arrived in the office to pick them up. If someone other than a parent is to pick up a student, the individual must be on the student’s emergency care card or a note is necessary to verify the person has parental permission. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to sign out a student.
  • All visitors to the school are required to report to the office, sign in, show a photo ID, and display a visitor badge while on school property.
  • Although we have a door access system in place and follow FCPS policy on checking photo IDs, we WELCOME AND ENCOURAGE ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT FROM OUR PARENTS AND VOLUNTEERS!
  • All students moving from location to location within the school are under supervision of an adult or using the buddy system.
