Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

We hope you enjoyed this past long weekend.  Our staff used this teacher workday to conference with parents, collaborate with team members and related service providers to plan for instruction and receive professional development on phonics instruction.  While this day off from school could be an inconvenience to working parents, we want you to know how valuable it is to us to continue to grow as professionals and have uninterrupted time to plan for our students’ needs.

In addition, about 25 Oak Hill staff members participated in our annual Crisis Meeting with FCPS Safety and Security members.  This training reviews all types of safety procedures to keep students and staff safe and allows us to practice our roles in the event we have a real event at Oak Hill.  The feedback Ms. An and I received from one of the FCPS Security Planning and Assessment Specialists stated,” I would like to congratulate you both on a well-organized and engaged team.  It truly was one of the best tabletops we have seen.”  I am proud of our staff for their dedication and commitment to keeping our students and each other safe at Oak Hill!

If you have any questions or feedback for Mrs. An or me, please reach out to us using this google form!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

CogAT Testing

In an effort to obtain additional information about your child, the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) will be administered to all students in grade 2 and grade 3 general education classes. It is important that your child attend school on these days, if possible. If your child must miss school during this time period and your child does not have another ability test result in their student record, they will have an opportunity to take another ability test later this fall. The purpose of the CogAT is to provide information about students’ developed abilities in verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning.  Children are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The CogAT is an abilities test, so children are not expected to study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.

In addition to the 2nd and 3rd general education students, any student in grade 4-6 who does not have an ability test score on file and any student whose parents requested a one-time retake opportunity will also be given the CogAT.

Testing dates for CogAT:

October 19-21 - 2nd and 3rd grade (general education classes only)
October 26-29 - Selected 4th,5th and 6th grade students

The PTA is hoping to provide a small monthly treat for all the Oak Hill Staff to say thank you! Please look over the sign up and if you can help with this month's treat.
