IMPORTANT INFO & EVENTS

Two Hour Early Release October 8

  • Due to our Homecoming Pep Rally and Parade, Friday, October 8 will be a two hour early release. All academy buses will operate on a regular schedule. Midday and afternoon academy classes will be optional for students. If a student chooses to stay at Madison for the pep rally, they should report to the library during their academy class time. Any student arriving back at Madison after bus departures at 12:55 will need to find alternate transportation home. 

Coalition for College Virtual Fair

  • October 5 & 6 from 4pm -10pm:  140+ college choices at the largest Coalition virtual fair yet. Join the Coalition at this free event to help you build a smart college list. Register here

Alcanza College Fair for Latinx Students

  • Students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to attend this event that will be held on October 22 (forms are due October 8) at the George Mason University EagleBank Arena. Students must complete this Google form and then pick up field trip forms in Room 110, Counseling Office, or T-4 and are available for students in Schoology. Forms are due October 8 to any of the room locations listed above.

College Visits to JMHS

  • Visits are for Seniors and Juniors
  • Students should view the most current list and sign up in Naviance

  • 10/5:  U of Toledo, U of Southern California, JMU
  • 10/6:  UVA, Oberlin C, LSU
  • 10/7:  U of Vermont, U of Georgia, W&M

PSAT/NMSQT and SAT School Day 

  • October 13th is a 2-hour early release. 
  • All students in 10-11 grades will participate in the PSAT/NMSQT. No registration is required.
  • Seniors who registered will take the SAT School Day. More details will be shared directly with students via their school email.
  • Students in grade 9 and those seniors not testing will not be in school on October 13th. An asynchronous activity will be provided for the freshmen.

AP Opt Out Forms

  • All students in an AP class have the opportunity to opt out of their AP Exam but they must do so by 10/15. By Thursday October 7th all students in an AP course will receive (in their advisory) their AP roster of exams taken along with courses currently enrolled in. Students will have the one time opportunity to opt out of any exam they wish. Students are responsible for any test beyond six (6) in their high school career. AP Exams are $95 each after the allotted six (6) which are covered by the county.

This Week in Advisory

  • Students will participate in activities that connect music to positivity. They will also vote for their homecoming court and participate in virtual games with the entire school. 

Dress Code

  • Please remind your students to be mindful of the FCPS dress code policy. If you have questions, reach out to your student’s school counselor or administrator.

Leaving Campus

  • Students are not permitted to leave school grounds during the school day without prior authorization. 

Food Deliveries 

  • Food may NOT be delivered to school grounds. If you are dropping food off for your child, please drop the food at Door 1 and text your child to pick it up in the main office.

LOOKING AHEAD

Landscape Architecture Career Webinar

  • The Virginia Tech Landscape Architecture Program is hosting a career webinar about Landscape Architecture Careers specifically for FCPS middle and high school students. The session will be presented by Mr. Chuck Ware, Landscape Architect. The session will highlight  opportunities in landscape architecture careers and include time for questions. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 12, from 7-8 pm. Students need to register by Monday, October 11 via this google form.

World Language Credit Exam

  • Students who are proficient in a language other than English may take a World Language Credit Exam to earn up to 3 credits in that language. Please see the following link and all registrations will be processed by the school counselor. Information on World Language Credit Exam.
  • Deadline to apply is Wednesday, October 13 at 4:00pm.  

FCPS Virtual College Week

  • FCPS Virtual College Week will take place Monday, October 18 - Thursday, October 21, 2021. FCPS families are invited to attend virtual sessions on a variety of topics, including how to pay for college, dual enrollment, AP/IB, how to apply to a military academy, and college essay writing. Registration is now open, and students and families can sign-up for as many sessions as they wish. Don’t forget to check out the FCPS Virtual College Week webpage for updates and to learn about various college fairs available to students. Underclassmen Picture Retake Day

  • Retake day is Wednesday, October 27.

Expunge Deadline: Friday October 29

  • In accordance with the Virginia Board of Education regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course.  Parents must make this request in writing no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course.  The form to make this request, along with the process for making the request, is available at:  Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School or through your student’s school counselor.  Parents are strongly advised to discuss this decision with their student’s school counselor and the impact of expunging a course on desired high school diploma type and standard and verified credit requirements.
