 Message from the Principal
Good Evening Jackson Families,
I would like to take a moment this weekend and share a deep appreciation for our Luther Jackson MS Teachers and their continuous extra efforts they have put forward this year to keep us moving ahead. Instructionally, our teachers have maintained a practice of flexibility and empathy to meet students where they are while ensuring skill development needed for future learning is in place. It is very important to acknowledge their work and their ability to make their students feel comfortable and welcome everyday. It is also important to appreciate their unrelenting attention to safety and their dedication to successfully maintain socially-distant classrooms each day. Each day I am able to visit classrooms and talk to teachers about what they are doing to support students, I am reminded of the many challenges in this current environment and how they show up everyday for their students; it is truly remarkable.
I normally include the opportunity to acknowledge the great work of our teachers at the end of my newsletter, but tonight I am including it at the top because I feel we all need to call out this great work. With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want our Tigers back in the classroom as soon as they are well. Starting Monday, October 4, the Return to School form is no longer needed. We will follow the following guidelines.
Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved, and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:
Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:

PCR (test result from lab or physician)

Rapid (test result from lab or physician)
-
Home Test (picture of negative home test AND note from parent attesting the result is for the specific child and to the date the test was administered)

Physician’s Note
Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school.
Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school.
Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15th to October 15th we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, and while we are not currently able to be together as we have in the past to enjoy such a fine tradition, please join me in celebrating and recognizing the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions throughout history. Student Rights & Responsibilities
The Students Rights & Responsibilities handbook will be transitioning to a digital format. All students will have the handbook on their laptop and parents can access the SR&R here.
Starting this school year, parents/guardians with a ParentVUE account can download and digitally sign the SR&R in ParentVUE. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account, regardless of relationship to the student, will see the SR&R upon login to PVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
ACTION REQUIRED: The SR&R Parent / Guardian Signature Sheet is due October 29, 2021.

Important Information
World Languages Credit Exam
The 2021 World Languages Credit Exam is a countywide exam and will be administered on November 17, 2021 at LJMS. Thirty languages will be included: American Sign Language, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Farsi, French, German, Greek*, Hebrew*, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese*, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Tigrinya, Turkish*, Twi, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
*Greek, Hebrew, Portuguese and Turkish will be offered by the Writing Proficiency Test by Language Testing International.
Registration for the WLCE is now open and closes on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted. Please contact your student’s school for registration information. School counselors will register students at their individual schools.

AAP Screening for new to county 7th graders
If your student is a new FCPS student (enrolled after January 2021), and you are interested in them being screened for the Level IV AAP program, please contact your student’s school counselor. The AAP Level IV Referral Form found here is due to school counselors by Thursday, October 7, 2021.
