Our 7th grade environmental scientists spent time outside this week exploring the wetlands around our school.

Franklin Families and Students,

Good Afternoon!

I hope that you have had a wonderful week. As you receive this message, I will be representing our school in the Chantilly HS Homecoming Parade. I will also be attending an Oakton football game on October 15. Community events such as these are some of the highlights of my role as the principal at Franklin and I hope that I will see many of you there.

There is a lot going at FMS next week and I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight some of these events. More details can be found below.

  • Virtual Parent Coffee With Student Services: Please join our amazing Student Services Team on the morning of September 30 at 8:00 AM for a session that is designed to offer assistance to our FMS families as they support their students on the journey through middle school. The link for this session can be found below.
  • Picture Day on Monday and Tuesday: Lifetouch photographers will be at FMS next week to take individual student portraits during your student's Health and PE class.
  • PTA Meeting: The first PTA meeting of the year will take place virtually on September 29 at 6:30 PM. This is a wonderful organization that has a place for all FMS families. The link for this session can be found below. We hope to see you there!
  • After School Program: Our in-person After School Program returns starting next week. You can learn more about the safety protocols that are in place and the activities that are offered by clicking here. All students must register in advance before attending any after school activities. Please click here for registration information.

During the first month of the school year, I have enjoyed hearing from so many of our families. Always feel free to reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu with questions, feedback, and suggestions.

It looks like there is going to be some incredible Fall weather during the next few days. Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Virtual Parent Coffee on September 30 at 8:00 AM

The Franklin Student Services Department will be hosting our first Parent Coffee of the 2021-22 school year - "An Overview of Middle School". Please join our Director of Student Services, Counselors, School Psychologist, Social Worker and our After-School Specialist for a virtual presentation. We will explore various topics including the role of our school-based clinical team and their support for your child and family, bridging the communication of school and home, forward-thinking into high school and why that matters in middle school, after school opportunities, and opportunities to engage your child at Franklin.

Our virtual meeting will be held on Friday, September 30 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM and you can access the meeting via this link. The entire presentation will be recorded and posted to Schoology for families that are unable to participate. We look forward to meeting with you on September 30.

New Picnic Tables at Franklin MS

Thank you to Christian Schopp and the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 158, for the new picnic tables at Franklin MS. Fifteen boy scouts met up this past weekend to build picnic tables for our school as part of an Eagle Scout project. Troop leaders Jim Lampe and Peter Hampel oversaw the project, and materials were donated from TW Perry. Thank you to the Boy Scouts and TW Perry for giving back to our community. The picnic tables are already in use for outdoor lunch seating at Franklin MS.

Digital Resources Consent Form

Due to some changes to YouTube this year, your student will not be able to view YouTube videos for class if you have not completed the Digital Resources Consent Form. You can review the tools used at Franklin here. Please reach out to Anne Baker if you have any questions.

Student Rights and Responsibilities Parent Signature Sheet

Students recently participated in Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) presentations and activities. An important part of the SR&R process is the partnership Franklin has with its parents and guardians through the completion of the SR&R Parent Signature sheet as acknowledgement of receiving the SR&R handbook electronically. Parents and guardians can acknowledge receipt of the SR&R in ParentVue in your child’s SIS account or sign the hard copy Parent Signature Sheet to acknowledge that you have received this document. Please e-sign through ParentVue or return the signed signature sheet to your child's school by October 29, 2021.

Health and Safety Updates

FCPS has created a flowchart outlining the process for students identified as a close contact and a Health and Safety Guidance Webpage where you can find the most updated information. In addition, the FCPS Covid-19 Dashboard will allow you to keep updated on the changing situations in our community.

Health Screening

The best way for you to help keep our community safe and moving forward is to continue to carefully monitor your child for signs of illness and keep your child home if they display possible symptoms of COVID-19. We ask that each morning families self-assess their children using the Health Screening Questionnaire.
