Gator Bytes: News and General Information for Kings Glen ES

Advanced Academics Information

Are you curious about Advanced Academic Programs in FCPS Elementary Schools? Mrs. Rode (AART at Kings Glen) has created an overview video for all families about the continuum of services.

Follow-up question-and-answer sessions for families will be held virtually (via Zoom) on Thursday, September 30th from 10:30-11:15am. If you have questions after watching the video recording, please email Mrs. Rode (LMRode@fcps.edu) to ask to receive a Zoom link.

Advanced Academics Newsletter

FCPS provides a continuum of Advanced Academic services to elementary students. All students have opportunities to think critically, reason, and problem-solve and all teachers use critical and creative thinking strategies in their lessons. Classroom teachers provide opportunities using materials from the AAP Curriculum Framework a minimum of once per quarter. Information about the levels of service, informational meetings, and referral deadlines can be found in this linked document.

Changes to Lunch and Recess at Kings Glen

Recess

To better ensure a safe and fun recess, Kings Glen is implementing a new recess structure to “zone” the different areas as we collectively remember, learn, and teach recess expectations.  Grade level classrooms will rotate recess zones (field, blacktop, and playground equipment), with up to two classes per zone.  Locations and class partnerships will be rotated frequently.

Lunch

We are excited to announce the addition of three outdoor eating spaces and are anticipating adding a fourth space next week. With the increase in seating options comes the increase in responsibility for all students. Students are currently reminded to gather all necessary lunch items as they exit the lunch line; additional items will no longer be provided to students (utensils being the exception).

Area Chorus

Area Chorus at Lake Braddock SS

The Lake Braddock choral department is sending out an invitation to all of our Kings Glen 5th and 6th grade students to join Area Chorus. This is a completely optional event for students who enjoy singing. Please view the flyer in your child’s Tuesday Folder for more information.

For more information, please contact Kathie d’Alelio or Kellie Dragity, Music teachers at Kings Glen ES.

Kings Park and Kings Glen Elementary will be participating in the International Walk to School Day event on Wednesday, October 6, 2021! Join children and adults around the world to enjoy the benefits of walking and bicycling. We will have designated “meet up” stations at various points in the Kings Park and Kings Glen walking boundary for any families who would like to walk as a group. (More Information)

Screen for Illness Every Day, Stay Home When Sick

As a reminder, any student who is ill or has COVID-like symptoms should remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated versions can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance webpage. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school.

FCPS Cares

The FCPS Cares Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can acknowledge our Kings Glen staff members.
