Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA)

Liberty students will participate in the Fall Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) September 21,2021-Sep 30, 2021. Students will take their Reading and Math VGA’s during their regularly scheduled English and Math classes. In order to allow sufficient time for students to test in their afternoon classes, we are moving 7th and 8th period to the first block of the day, and 1st and 2nd period to the end of the day from September 27th--September 30th.

If you have questions about the VGA contact our School Test Coordinator, Annie Baker at mabaker1@fcps.edu or call 703-988-8207.

You may access the FCPS Virginia Growth Assessment Notification with translations at this link.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) commits to supporting all students’ mental wellness and social and emotional learning (SEL). FCPS staff will use the SEL screener to identify strengths and needs for students in grades K-12. The screener provides information regarding students’ experiences and how staff can support their needs.

SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The screener will review these skills, as well as students’ relationships, feelings of belonging, feelings about their school environment, and mood. These factors are critical to positive academic, social, and emotional success.

Schools will set specific dates for testing in each class. If you wish to opt your child out of participating in the SEL Screener, please complete this attached form and return it to your child’s Unity Time Teacher by September 30.

Kiss and Ride Reminders:

Please remember SAFETY and PATIENCE when dropping off (7:10AM) or picking up your student in the Kiss and Ride loop. In the mornings, please do not pull to the inside and pass cars as students are getting out. If there is a slow or stalled vehicle, a staff member will direct you around when it is safe to do so. 30 seconds seems like forever when you are in a rush. If possible, your student may walk or ride the bus.

In the afternoons, staff will direct cars out safely, as soon as the students exit the building and in the car. Thank you very much for you patience and cooperation!

*Please use the Kiss and Ride loop when picking up from After-school at 3:30PM and 4:30PM

Open Board Positions:

We are looking for a few more people to join our board! We NEED a Treasurer, if you have any experience in this area please consider joining us. Basic responsibilities include budgeting, depositing funds, issuing checks and maintaining the account records. We are also in need of a VP Membership, basic responsibilities include developing strategies to enhance and engage membership, overseeing bylaws and creating a committee to renew and update them as needed.

The Exec Board will meet mostly by Zoom and all PTA meetings this year will be on Zoom making participation very accommodating to your already busy schedules. If you have participated with an Elementary School PTA in the past, I think that you will find Middle School PTA needs to be less intense. Contact Kelly at president@libertymspta.org if you have questions or are interested.

PTA Membership:

Please consider supporting the PTA by becoming a MEMBER. Member fees are just $15 and allow the PTA to continue to provide valuable support to Liberty MS students and teachers. Click here for a quick and easy registration process. This year ALL PTA meetings will be held VIRTUALLY.  Each meeting will highlight a different academic and specials department at Liberty MS and teachers will join us to share details about curriculum and teaching methods and answer your questions.
