Hello Justice HS Students, Families, and Community Members:

We are entering our 5th week of school and as Principal, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude for your continued flexibility, patience, and commitment to our school community as we navigate through these unique times.   My goal is to stay consistent with our communication efforts and your ongoing support and feedback serve as an important tool to keep up the good things happening at Justice HS, in addition to implementing improvements throughout the school year.

Unfortunately, our school and schools across FCPS this past week have been impacted by this latest TikTok trend, including here in Region 2.  Some examples of these destructive acts include vandalism to soap dispensers, toilets, stalls, and paper towel dispensers in student bathrooms.  We need your support in reminding students of the consequences associated with destruction of school property.  Students who vandalize school property are violating the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities and will face disciplinary action and we will not tolerate this behavior for our school community.

COVID mitigation and keeping transmission rates low, continue to be a priority at Justice HS. We will continue to keep the community in the loop on our efforts. The Fairfax County Health Department announced a change in their communication process for students waiting for COVID-19 contact interviews. You may read about these changes on the FCHD website. You may also wish to review the FCHD FAQs for parents of school-aged children. We appreciate the continued partnership between FCPS and FCHD.

This past week we observed Yom Kippur and also started celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, which goes through October 15th.  At Justice HS we recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American influencers who have inspired others to achieve success.  This week we will conduct our virtual/asynchronous Back to School Night.  Additional information will be provided below.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

PSAT/NMSQT and SAT School Day:

In Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and across the United States, students in grades 10 and 11 will take a Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) on October 13, 2021. All FCPS students will receive a free score report.  Registration is not required. Only students in grade 11 are eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholarship; however, taking the PSAT/NMSQT in grade 10 provides student practice.

The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test designed to promote college readiness while preparing students for college entrance assessments. It measures evidence-based reading, writing and language, and mathematics with a focus on reasoning skills, knowledge, and comprehension. These are all skills that are important for college and career readiness.

All FCPS students have access to Khan Academy’s free online test preparation, whether they are taking the PSAT for the first time or preparing for eleventh grade National Merit Scholarship qualification.  This resource was shared with your student in early September.

  • All high schools and secondary schools will operate on a 2-hour early release schedule to provide professional development for staff and/or to allow teacher-directed time for collaborative team meetings, lesson planning activities, etc.
  • Grade 9 students will receive asynchronous virtual learning, focused on high school transition activities. Instructional resources to support these transition activities will be provided to Career Plan Liaisons.
  • Grade 12 students who returned an intent to participate form will take the SAT exam; October 13 will be an unscheduled day for grade 12 students who are not testing, unless the student chooses to engage in another approved activity, such as civic engagement or college visits.
  • Transportation is available to all eligible FCPS students participating in PSAT or SAT exams including those testing with extended time accommodations. The school test coordinator will contact families directly with this information.
  • High school academy courses will not be held on October 13, and shuttles are canceled.
  • Breakfast and a grab and go lunch will be provided.

More logistical information will be communicated to families and students about PSAT and SAT School Day in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, be on the lookout for an e-notify related to a PSAT pre-survey opt out form due October 8.

If you have immediate questions or concerns, please contact the PSAT/SAT School Day Coordinator – Shelley Terry at sdterry@fcps.edu.

Digital Resource Consent

At Justice High School, our teachers will use a variety of powerful digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. Without consent, teachers will need to plan additional lessons or deviate from a useful application altogether. You can find our school’s list of the resources here: https://justicehs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Please follow this link to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval.
