Back to their Roots Feature

It was an exciting week as four Stone staff members were featured on several local news outlets each person came back to work at Stone, the middle school they attended. Click the link above to read more about it.

Portrait of a Panther

There are so many students who continue to shine each day as they engage and participate in classes. I love being able to get into classrooms to see all of our many talented students as they demonstrate Portrait of a Graduate skills. Click the link above to see this week’s Portrait of a Panther Winners.

Communication Update

We greatly appreciate your continued patience and support as we navigate the reporting and management process as it relates to students who are out with Covid-19, or have been placed on pause. The Fairfax County Health Department announced a change in their communication process for students waiting for COVID-19 contact interviews.

Academic Coordinator Position

My name is Sarah Elkalban and I have recently been assigned to the role of Academic Coordinator at Stone Middle School. This is a new role and part of my job is to check in with students who were put on pause so we can put an Academic Support Plan in place to make sure they are caught up with any missed assignments and to see what interventions they may need in order to get instructional support or additional time to complete assignments. I am in the process of going through the list and connecting with students that were out for a longer duration of time. After I connect with the student, I reach out to the student’s teachers and parents with a summary. You may have received emails from me already. If a student is missing anything additional than what we discuss,, I have asked teachers to connect with the student. Many of our students simply need a grace period to complete work and assessments and some may need extra assistance to understand the assignments better. As needed, I look forward to partnering with your child, you, and their teacher to help get back on track.

We have some great upcoming events planned for this week to include a featured guest speaker for students during Panther Block on 9/23,  as well as hosting the Westfield High School Homecoming Parade on Friday 9/24 at 4:45 PM. We invite our students and families to join our feeder pyramid schools as Stone MS participates in the fun and excitement before the Westfield Homecoming game. Upon completion of the game, plan to head over to Westfield High School to enjoy the football game at 7:00 PM. There will be a special cheering section for Stone students and families
