Principal's Message

Dear Shrevewood Families,

We hope everyone had a good week! We were excited to see many of our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders begin band and strings this week. We also wanted to make you aware of a change in COVID notification. If we have a positive COVID case at Shrevewood ES, we will notify the community on Fridays via email through the eNotify system. We will continue to contact families directly if their child has been identified as a potential close contact to a positive COVID case.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first PTA meeting this week. We were able to discuss our focus for the school year and celebrate our successful beginning of the year together. Please enjoy your weekend and we look forward seeing your children next week!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal

Before and After School Programs this Fall!

The PTA is excited to offer before and after school programs through Baroody Camps again this Fall!  There are sports programs, STEM programs, and even a cooking class!  Registration is currently open and is on a first come, first serve basis.  Registration will close on Sunday, October 3rd.  Please visit the program website for the schedule, program descriptions, and to register.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available online for Elementary (K-6). Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to the main office prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online here. They are also posted in the Shrevewood All Parents Schoology course. Parents/guardians can login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

You are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, October 12 at 6:00 pm. All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time. A link will be sent out to families closer to the meeting date.

Program questions may be addressed by our FLE lead teacher, Mark Shriver, or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or by contacting Carrie Reynolds, Health and Physical Education Coordinator at cfreynolds@fcps.edu.
