Justice Junction - Community News & Updates - September 13, 2021

Junction

September 13, 2021

Hello Justice HS Students, Families, and Community Members:

Since we began the school year, I have had the privilege of visiting many of our classrooms to meet with teachers and students.  Our teachers have gotten creative by using some amazing outdoor learning spaces and creative ways to reconnect students with one another.

Last week I met with students during our individual class meetings to discuss the importance of wearing face masks properly, appropriate school attire, and getting to class on time during transitions.  Students were also offered information about our upcoming Homecoming Week, prepared and presented by our SGA class officers.

FCPS, in coordination with the county health department, is continuing to refine their approach to contact tracing and communication in order to minimize the impact of COVID-related absences on students’ access to learning.  At Justice, we are fortunate to have witnessed some of the improvements, especially with students who are fully vaccinated.  Moving forward, we will continue to ensure students can access necessary materials through Schoology if they are required to be out of school.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

important information

Yom Kippur - September 16: Yom Kippur is the holiest day in Judaism. To mark this day, Thursday, September 16 is noted as a religious/cultural observance date on the FCPS calendar. The FCPS 2021-22 School Year Calendar ensures students do not have to make choices between honoring their cultural or religious beliefs and missing tests or school activities. Tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events cannot be scheduled on any religious and cultural observances. Tests and quizzes will be given prior to any of the 15 days so that students will not be expected to study on these days.

Lockdown Drill - Next Week: Keeping students and staff safe is a priority at Justice High School. Next week we will conduct our first lockdown drill of the school year.  Your student may come home and talk about their experience during the drill.  We encourage you to talk with your student about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Here are some helpful tips for families to use to support their students before and after school lockdown drills. Working together, we create a safe, secure environment for students to learn and grow in our schools.

PSAT/NMSQT (10th and 11th Graders) - October 13thOn Wednesday, October 13th, Justice High School will host both the PSAT/NMSQT for all students in grades 10 & 11. Students are automatically registered and no further action by families is needed. The test is offered at no cost to families. All FCPS students have access to Khan Academy’s free online test preparation, whether they are taking the PSAT for the first time or preparing for eleventh grade National Merit Scholarship Qualification. The Khan Academy online curriculum is customized for students based on any previous PSAT or SAT scores. In addition, the website offers general test preparation tips for students. Students will receive their testing locations in early October.

SAT School Day (12th Graders) - October 13th: On Wednesday, October 13th, Justice High School 12th graders will have the opportunity to take the SAT School Day. FCPS will cover the cost for any twelfth grade student to take this test. General information about the SAT School Day test format is available on the College Board webpage. We will share exam day schedules and additional details in the coming weeks. If you have questions about the SAT School Day administration at Justice High School, please contact our Director of Student Services, Christy Hanlon, at cihanlon@fcps.edu.

HELPFUL RESOURCES

SIS ParentVue Account

Parents and Guardians: Please follow this link for information on how to obtain and access a SIS ParentVue account.  This account will enable you to see your student’s grade and attendance information in SIS as well as access your child’s Schoology page.

Digital Resource Consent

At Justice High School, our teachers will use a variety of powerful digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. Without consent, teachers will need to plan additional lessons or deviate from a useful application altogether. You can find our school’s list of the resources here: https://justicehs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Please follow this link to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval.
