Glasgow Community Gazette - September 12

Powell

Glasgow Community:

Greetings! I hope you had a restful weekend. Last week FCPS and Glasgow recognized the 20th anniversary of September 11 by holding a moment of silence. Additionally, we presented a lesson on September 11 in our Panther Time classes. We also want to speak up against any anti-Muslim bias and ensure all our students safety and wellbeing are felt.

I spent this past weekend hanging out with my family, celebrating my wife’s birthday and taking care of my own mental health by staying consistent with my 6AM workouts on the weekend! I recently finished “The Vanishing Half'' by Brit Bennett and now I am looking for a new book, if anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

COVID mitigation continues to be a priority at Glasgow. We have added additional outdoor and indoor seating for students to use during lunch.  In addition, FCPS and the Health Department recently shared their plans to streamline asymptomatic, vaccinated students’ return to school when identified as a possible close contact, which should speed up the process for some students to return, as needed.

At Glasgow, we have been lucky enough so far that we have not had a lot of cases that resulted in the identification of close contacts at school.  Nevertheless, we are refining our structures to ensure students continue to have access to learning should they be identified as a possible close contact.

As a reminder, our Virtual Back To School Night is on Monday, September 13th, 2021. This week is Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement. There are 15 religious and cultural observance days that have been designated in the 2021-22 school year calendar.  For more about religious and cultural observance days, take a look at this announcement from back in March 2021.

As always, please let me know if you would like me to visit you with a Home Visit this year! My goal is to stay consistent with ensuring we are getting out in the community and going to our families to ensure our community and school partnership is strong throughout the school year and beyond. Please let me know if our team or myself can support in any way. Please contact me or our team if you have any questions. Thank you.

Humbly,

Victor L. Powell,  Principal
