Keeping Families Connected!

Delia Retirement

Hello Westlawn Families,

Three weeks into the 2021-2022 school year and our community is flying high!  Teaching and learning is revving up as children adapt to being back at school five days a week.  With social distancing in place to the greatest extent possible, teachers are working feverishly to design and implement learning opportunities to challenge our children and enrich the academic experience.

Today the Westlawn Family bid farwell to long-time custodial team member Delia DeGarcia.  After 21 years in the Westlawn Community Ms. DeGarcia soars into retirement.  Ms. DeGarcia poured her heart and soul into our community since joining the team in 2000.  Thank you for always putting our children first.  We will miss you.

Community Conversation - Wednesday, September 15, 1:00PM

We will have a community conversation on Wednesday, September 15 at 1:00PM.  We will provide updates to health and safety protocols and procedures, but the majority of the time will be dedicated to questions from families. Access our virtual meeting here

Q & A From This Week's Community Conversation

Q: Can schools let families know if teachers are going to be out for a duration of time without giving a reason why?

A: Yes - if a teacher is going to miss a significant period of time we will contact families via email and provide information about classroom instruction during the teachers' absence.

Q: Will there be cohorting within families across grade levels to minimize student possible close contacts?

A: Cohorting across grade levels is challenging as there are limited interactions between different grade levels.  We are, however, making targeted efforts to cohort within classrooms to limit possible close contacts.

To keep our community safe and our children in school it is imperative that we carefully monitor our students for signs of illness, and keep kids home if they display possible symptoms of COVID-19.  We ask that each morning families self-assess their children using the Health Screening Questionnaire provided below.
