UPDATE: FH Weekly Update - 9/6/21

LD

Yesterday's newsletter contained the incorrect time for our PTA Back to School Picnic. It has been updated to reflect the correct time (5:30-7:30)

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

We hope you and your family had a spectacular and safe 4-day Labor Day weekend. On their Twitter page, our PTA shared this brief post about the history of Labor Day - you may wish to share it with your children.

As we begin our third week of school, we wanted to share how impressed and proud we are of our students and staff this year. Mr. Kopacz and I have been able to stop by all the classrooms, visit with the students at lunch, and see them shine during specials. We appreciate our parents’ support in the daily symptom check prior to sending children to school. If you are ever unsure if your child may attend in person, please call our health clinic or reach out to us directly. We are in this together for the safety of our students!

And finally... we need your help! We hope to begin outdoor lunches for students now that our weather has improved. We are looking for parents who are willing to assist staff supervising outdoor lunch. If you are available on certain days of the week, please complete this form. We will send you additional details.

We look forward to seeing you at our Back to School Picnic on Friday!

Wishing you a wonderful week, and Shanah Tovah to our families celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

Positivity Project Intro Week: Other People Mindset!

pp

The Positivity Project is back!

This week, we are focusing on the heart of the Positivity Project, the Other People Mindset. This idea is built on five important principles:

  • We can identify and appreciate the good in others
  • We support others when they struggle
  • We are present and give others our attention
  • We cheer on others’ successes
  • We know that our words and actions affect others.

            “We rise by lifting others.”

                   ~Robert Ingersoll

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • Why is this important?
  • How do I live with this mindset?
  • How do other people live with this mindset?

Health & Safety Guidance

The health and safety of our families is our utmost priority. Here is some information from FCPS that gives tips on how to stop the spread, as well as explains the process we use when there is a positive case.

FCPS Health and Safety Guidance Webpage

Our Health and Safety Guidance Webpage has the most current information about our layered prevention strategies, what happens if your child becomes ill at school, and the process when there is a pause in instruction or activities after a positive COVID case.

Flow Chart for Notification of a Positive Case

We know the pause process is frustrating and sometimes confusing for families. The flowchart below is posted to the FCPS website and explains the exact process FH, FCPS, and the Fairfax County Health Department use to identify and notify close contacts after a positive case.

COVID Dashboard

All FCPS COVID-19 cases are reported via a dashboard posted to the FCPS website and updated daily. While this does not outline the number of students quarantining, it has tabs showing total number of cases, cases by school and cases by date.
